Staff Accountant Velox Clearing is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our Finance team. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career accounting professional who wants to build a strong foundation in accounting while gaining hands-on experience in the financial services and securities industry. The Staff Accountant will work closely with the Finance team and other departments to support the firm's daily accounting and financial operations. The position will provide exposure to a broad range of accounting functions, including reconciliations, cash management, accounts payable and receivable, financial reporting, and internal controls. The ideal candidate is someone who takes ownership of their work, enjoys solving problems, is comfortable working with numbers and large amounts of data, and is eager to learn. Experience in the securities industry is not required—we are willing to train the right candidate. Key Responsibilities Prepare and maintain balance sheet reconciliations , investigate variances, and resolve outstanding items. Process and reconcile client deposits and withdrawals in coordination with the firm's operations and finance teams. Compile and process information supporting Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting . Work closely with other departments to monitor and reconcile daily cash activity and cash flows . Prepare and process vendor payments and assist with accounts payable activities. Perform account analyses and reconciliations, including bank accounts, fixed assets, accruals, prepaid expenses, and other general ledger accounts . Research, investigate, and resolve accounting errors, discrepancies, and reconciling items . Assist with the preparation of financial information and schedules for internal and external audits and respond to audit inquiries. Prepare monthly expense analyses , identify significant trends or variances, and assist management in understanding the underlying activity. Assist Finance management with various accounting, tax, reporting, and administrative responsibilities . Work collaboratively with Operations and other departments to ensure accounting records are complete, accurate, and timely. Learn and apply the accounting and regulatory requirements applicable to a registered broker-dealer and clearing firm . Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field from an accredited four-year institution. Strong understanding of basic GAAP accounting principles and internal controls. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail. Highly organized and able to effectively manage multiple priorities and deadlines. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Self-motivated with a willingness to take ownership of assigned responsibilities. Must have Proficiency in Excel and comfort working with accounting/financial systems. Ability to identify problems, ask appropriate questions, and learn from mistakes. Demonstrated integrity, reliability, and discretion when handling financial information. Ability to work effectively as part of a team. Preferred / Nice-to-Have Previous accounting, finance, or internship experience. Experience with financial services, banking, securities, or a broker-dealer. Familiarity with SEC or FINRA rules and regulations . Experience with account reconciliations or general ledger accounting. Interest in pursuing the FINRA Series 99 registration. Industry experience is not required. We are particularly interested in candidates who have a strong accounting foundation and the desire to learn the financial operations of a regulated financial institution. Why Join Velox Clearing?
