Job description: Job Overview We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Staff Accountant specializing in Real Estate to join our finance team. Our small, growing, family-owned real estate company needs an organized and trustworthy Staff Accountant. As a key contributor, you will leverage your expertise in accounting principles and real estate finance to handle day to day accounting, rent collections, tenant accounts, and monthly financial reporting for our residential and commercial property portfolio. Since we are a tight-knit family business, a hands-on attitude, strong communication skills, and strict discretion with financial data are essential. Your proactive approach and technical proficiency will drive efficiency and accuracy across all accounting processes. The job is primarily in-office based. Work schedules and hours may be flexible, based on the candidate's qualifications. Hiring salary will also vary based on the candidate's qualifications and experience. Responsibilities Prepare and analyze financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow reports specific to real estate holdings. Perform detailed general ledger accounting. Conduct account reconciliations for property accounts, bank statements, and inter-company transactions. Manage journal entries related to property acquisitions, dispositions, depreciation, and lease accounting with precision and compliance. Post check, ACH, and wire payments and ensure receipts are applied to appropriate tenant accounts. Monitor overdue balances, research payment discrepancies, and prepare past-due accounts receivable reporting. Support timely and accurate tenant setup, billing information, and account maintenance. Review leases as necessary. Identify opportunities to improve processes, strengthen controls, and increase efficiencies within billing and accounts receivable workflow. Prepare and oversee annual CAM audits. Assist with ad-hoc financial projects, tenant inquiries, or office administrative tasks as needed. Qualifications Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; OR 3-5 years related experience. Real estate experience preferred. Must have the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant. Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail; ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks efficiently. Interpersonal and communication skills with both internal and external customers, and the ability to work in a team oriented environment. A positive attitude, with a high degree of ethics and personal integrity, as well as confidentiality, are traits needed to be successful in this role. Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Teamwork, flexibility needed to fulfill job responsibilities, adapting to changes in work environment and accepting supervisory feedback.
