Advice Lead Business Systems Analyst \ Technical Product Owner

The Advice Lead Business Systems Analyst / Technical Product Owner serves as the critical bridge between IT engineering teams and Advice business Product Management, operating daily within one or more Agile Scrum teams. This role functions as the primary functional and analytical authority for assigned applications and processes, owning the full lifecycle of requirements from initial business intent through delivery and production support. The role is accountable for requirements documentation, functional requirement elaboration, systems documentation, backlog management, and providing authoritative guidance to Quality Assurance and Production Support teams on expected system behavior. Working in close partnership with Tech Leads, Developers, Scrum Masters, and QA staff, this role drives prioritization and health of technical backlogs to ensure continuous delivery of business value. Key Responsibilities and Duties Serve as the functional authority for assigned Advice domain applications, conducting thorough analysis of complex systems, business processes, and cross-application integrations Translate Epics, Capabilities, and Features into well-structured, groomed User Stories with detailed and permutative acceptance criteria that development teams can confidently act upon Facilitate requirements elaboration through a variety of formats including one-on-one stakeholder interviews, joint business and IT collaboration sessions, feature and story grooming, targeted Subject Matter Expert sessions, and vendor-facing design discussions, always maintaining focus on solutions that genuinely meet business intent Conduct current state and future state analysis, evaluating existing business functions, workflows, and application usage to identify gaps, inefficiencies, and opportunities for process improvement or automation Perform impact analysis and effort estimation for new work intake items on a consistent and ongoing basis Day-to-day ownership of one or more technical backlogs, managing prioritization in close collaboration with Tech Leads, Scrum Masters, and business Product Managers Maintain backlog refinement hygiene, ensuring stories are fully elaborated with defined acceptance criteria well in advance of sprint planning Actively participate in all sprint ceremonies including planning, review, retrospective, and daily standups Proactively identify and work to resolve impediments that could delay delivery commitments Contribute to release planning and PI Planning activities within a Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) environment where applicable Perform data analysis, data mapping, and functional design documentation in support of development teams Analyze data flows across integrated systems, supporting API design and review Interpret database entity relationship diagrams across both relational and NoSQL data stores Work with structured data formats such as XML and XSD schemas to support integration and design activities Utilize tools such as SQL, Splunk, MongoDB, Postman, or equivalent tools or utilities to investigate system behavior, validate data, and support troubleshooting efforts Partner closely with QA teams to ensure test coverage reflects the full permutative scope of functional requirements Contribute to test case design and review test plans for completeness and accuracy Serve as the functional reference point during system integration testing and user acceptance testing phases Assist in root cause analysis for software defects identified during build and test cycles Support Production Support teams in diagnosing and documenting root cause analysis for production Incidents and Problems Provide functional context to assist in triage, workaround identification, and permanent resolution efforts Adhere to Change Control and Problem Management procedures throughout all support activities Perform all work in accordance with established SDLC standards, Scaled Agile best practices, and relevant compliance and governance frameworks Ensure that documentation, traceability, and audit artifacts meet organizational and regulatory requirements applicable to financial services software delivery Follow all Change Control procedures and contribute to continuous process improvement within the Scrum team Engage with external vendors and internal stakeholders at various levels, including executive leadership, to represent functional and technical requirements Evaluate vendor capabilities and ensure that third-party integrations align with business and architectural standards Serve as a functional liaison during vendor-led design discussions, implementation activities, and integration testing Educational Requirements University (Degree) Preferred Work Experience 5+ Years Required; 7+ Years Preferred Career Level 9IC Required Skills: 5+ years of experience as a Advice Lead Business Systems Analyst or Technical Product Owner Experience in requirements documentation using one or more industry-standard tools such as JIRA, Jira Align, Confluence, Rational Team Concert, Rational Requirements Composer, Requisite Pro, Caliber, Rally, or VersionOne 5+ years Financial Services industry experience, working within a distributed enterprise IT environment in a Scrum team, production support, or testing capacity 2+ years of experience with highly integrated enterprise systems, including both internal platforms Specific experience in one or more of the following domains is required, with preference given to candidates with breadth across multiple areas: Brokerage and advisory platforms Managed accounts Wealth management tools and platforms Retirement planning and recordkeeping systems Financial planning applications Familiarity with modern portfolio theory, asset allocation concepts, and general investment principles Experience in full software development lifecycle from initial requirements through production operation Experience with technical tools relevant to enterprise financial systems, including: SQL for data querying and validation Splunk for log analysis and system monitoring MongoDB or equivalent NoSQL data stores XML and XSD for data structure and integration work Postman, Insomnia, or equivalent tools for web service and API troubleshooting LLM-based tools and AI-assisted workflow analysis Experience assisting with API design and reviewing data models across relational and NoSQL database platforms Expereince with SAFe (Scaled Agile Framework) practices including PI Planning, ART ceremonies, and program-level backlog management Preferred Skills: Experience in integrating and analyzing Monte Carlo based analytical engines (Morningstar is the primary vendor aligned to this role, so any experience with Morningstar methodologies is highly desirable) Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Technology, Finance, or a related field Experience engaging with executives or external vendors on requirements, functional design, or integration planning Related Skills Acceptance Testing, Business Analysis, Business Process Improvement, Business Process Mapping, Business Process Understanding, Business Requirements, Collaboration, Data Analysis, IT Business Analysis, Systems Design/Analysis, Systems Development Life Cycle, Technical Documentation, Test Planning Anticipated Posting End Date: 2026-10-30 Base Pay Range: $136,000/yr - $180,000/yr Actual base salary may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, time in role, base salary of internal peers, prior performance, business sector, and geographic location.
