High School Biblical Studies Teacher

Reports to: Head of School or designee, as applicable. Job Summary for High School Teachers: CCA teachers set the tone for learning for the rest of a student’s life. This includes providing a rigorous learning environment for students, helping them to develop as individuals as well as to master the subject content they need to succeed. Teachers are responsible for developing and implementing Biblically-integrated lesson plans in their classrooms. Teachers create a positive, Christ-centered experience during the school day, so students are more prepared to take on the challenges as they progress through their current and subsequent level of education. CCA teachers instruct and encourage students to develop their individual talents. Teachers strive to foster within their students a passion for learning and how to overcome challenges and obstacles that keep them from reaching their God-given potential. Flexibility is given to tailor lessons to both the teacher’s and the students’ interests and strengths. While using NYS and CCA-approved standards as a guide, CCA teachers find creative, engaging ways to exceed the standards while teaching real-life application of difficult concepts such as, but not limited to, literature, math, and science. Roles & Responsibilities: Carry out CCA’s Mission Statement helping to create an environment where faculty, staff, and students will grow “in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man.” Luke 2:52 Continue to uphold CCA’s statement of faith and other spiritual requirements as stated on CCA’s employment application. Assist in facilitating weekly chapel, including scheduling of speakers. Mentor students and participate in discipleship activities. Collaborate with the the Dean of Student Life and Head of School or organize Spiritual Emphasis Week. Personal interactions will be guided by the principles in Matthew 18:15-16. “If your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault, between you and him alone. Then do what is good, and you will receive his approval,” Romans 13:1-3 ESV Maintain reasonable confidentiality pertaining to school and student matters. Mandated exceptions would include issues such as child abuse, harm to self or others, interdepartmental concerns for students, legal issues, etc. Teach students in a classroom setting, manage their work output in the classroom and behavior on a daily basis. Develop teaching and learning materials for use in class, lesson plans, exams, homework, projects, and assignments that make use of all student skills. These will be based upon: Course Description, Objectives for Growth & Improvement, Action Plans, Curriculum Map Integrate technology into lessons when appropriate. Modify lesson plans and materials, as needed, to make them suitable for the students’ current learning levels. Monitor and track student progress and assess learning. Maintain relationships with parents and legal guardians of students in order to keep them informed of their child’s progress. Work collaboratively with other teachers and administrators, including academic support teachers and teacher aides, to provide individualized support for each student on a regular basis. Weekly after school support will be provided to students in need of extra help. Collaborate with other teachers in order to share best practices and provide meaningful feedback regularly. Make every effort to have students meet the educational standards and school performance goals for their grade level. Job Skills & Qualifications: Required: Bachelor's Degree in Bible, Theology or Ministry or or course of study in a field related to Biblical Studies Preferred: Master's Degree in Bible, Theology or Ministry Certification(s) related to Biblical Studies or higher qualifications K-12 Teaching experience Church/Youth Ministries experience Ability to speak for long periods of time and perform light physical labor, including lifting, bending, and reaching Expectations: Abide by faculty responsibilities in the Faculty/Staff Handbook, which is reviewed during Teacher Work Week Maintain an up-to-date substitute folder or binder Attend faculty/staff devotions Attend Teacher Work Week, Faculty-Staff-Board Retreat, department meetings, division meetings, and faculty meetings Participate at school events that pertain to their division as noted on the calendar.
