The Miami VA Healthcare System's NFS is seeking an experienced and dynamic Clinical Dietetic Technician. Ideal applicants are those who want to contribute to the achievement of quality care standards, as well as the growth and development of a VA academic hospital program. The incumbent works under the general supervision of the Clinical/Inpatient Supervisory Dietitian and is expected to complete work assignments with relative independence and minimal guidance after conferring with the Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) regarding patient care, personally setting deadlines for completion of work. Assumes responsibility in work assignments in accordance with regulations and independently resolves most conflicts. Work is reviewed to ensure the overall objectives of the position are met. The Advanced Clinical Dietetic Technicians (Clinical) in this assignment serve as a counterpart to the RDN functioning to assist in the completion of patient screening and assessments, including Nutrition Focused Physical Exams (NFPE), care plan development, diet counseling and record keeping. Other duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Assisting the RDN with initial patient screening and evaluation Assisting the RDN in conducting NFPE on patients, when applicable Completing nutrition assessments as assigned by the RDN Developing and implementing care plans and documents in the medical record Conducting patient education in both individual and group settings Interacting with the interdisciplinary team members to meet patient care goals Providing direction to other clinical staff regarding clinical operations Overseeing a departmental program such as nursing home/Medical Foster Homes/Grant Per Diem inspections, Food Insecurity, or the Healthy Teaching Kitchen and other department initiatives Assisting with the education of food service staff on clinically related topics Performing other duties as assigned as appropriate for the grade and assignment and which are within the scope of the occupation Work Schedule: Monday • Friday; 6:00 a.m. • 2:30 p.m. (Note: Work schedules are determined and approved by the supervisor. The incumbent may be required to work various shifts on a permanent or temporary basis based on facility/patient care needs). Basic Requirements: All applicants must meet the following basic qualifications. United States Citizenship: Must be a US Citizen English Language Proficiency. CDT candidates must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with 38 U.S.C § 7403(f). Experience and/or Education. Education. Completion of an associate's or higher degree program in Dietetic Technology, Dietetics or another related field of study that is accredited by ACEND® • OR • Experience. Completion of one (1) year of clinical experience in dietetics, and the possession of an active Certified Dietary Manager (COM) certification. The experience must have been received after possession of the COM certification • OR • Experience/Education Combination. Equivalent combinations of experience and education are qualifying. Licensure/Certification/Registration. Possession of the DTR credential from the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR), the credentialing agency of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, is required for the Advanced CDT (Clinical), GS-08 assignment. Grade Determinations: In addition to the basic requirements above, all applicants must also meet the following grade requirements for a this specific grade level. Advanced Clinical Dietetic Technician (Clinical), GS-08. Experience. One (1) year of specialized experience comparable to the next lower level which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities related to the duties of the position to be filled. Registration. Must hold the DTR credential from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. In addition to meeting the experience and registration requirements for this grade level, the candidate must fully demonstrate the following KSAs: Knowledge of clinical policies and procedures pertaining to nutrition and food service operations Skill in conducting Nutrition Focused Physical Exams Skill in communicating with various populations and interdisciplinary team members for the purpose of nutrition program management Ability to independently develop and implement nutritional care plans for patients Ability to coordinate program-specific operations or initiatives for process improvement While we no longer require essay-style responses to our KSAs, you must be able to demonstrate that you possess the KSAs that are necessary to successfully perform the work of the position.
