Reporting to the Foreman, the Groundman is an entry-level, hourly role supporting overhead and underground power line, substation, and related utility work. You’ll help prepare worksites, handle materials, support equipment operations, and assist crews with daily construction and maintenance activities. This opportunity suits someone who enjoys physical work outdoors, takes safety seriously, and is ready to learn. Previous construction experience is an asset, and entry-level candidates with a strong work ethic and willingness to learn are encouraged to apply. What You’ll Do Work safely: Follow safe work procedures, wear required protective equipment, participate in daily safety briefings, and promptly report hazards or unsafe conditions. Support the crew: Assist powerline technicians, equipment operators, and other crew members with tasks appropriate to your training and authorization. Prepare and maintain worksites: Set up barriers, organize work areas, remove debris, and assist with cleanup and site restoration. Handle tools and materials: Load, unload, carry, and stage materials and equipment using safe handling methods and lifting aids. Assist with construction activities: Support digging, trenching, backfilling, compaction, and ground-level assembly and placement of conduit, cable, poles, and related components. Support equipment operations: Use hand tools, power tools, and small equipment, and assist with spotting and traffic control when trained and authorized. Care for tools and equipment: Complete pre-use inspections, report defects, and keep tools, equipment, and company vehicles clean and organized. What You’ll Bring A strong commitment to safety, reliable attendance, and working cooperatively with your crew. Willingness to learn, follow direction, and complete required safety training and site orientations. Ability to understand verbal and written instructions, communicate clearly, and ask questions when instructions or conditions are unclear. Awareness of worksite hazards and the importance of maintaining safe distances around electrical equipment, moving machinery, suspended loads, and excavations. A valid driver’s licence and an acceptable driving record for assigned driving duties. Previous experience in construction, utility work, or general labour, along with familiarity with construction tools and equipment, is an asset. Work Environment & Schedule Work environment: Primarily ground-level work at outdoor construction sites, in varying weather conditions and on uneven terrain. Physical demands: Prolonged standing and walking, bending, crouching, kneeling, and lifting or carrying materials weighing up to 25 kg (approximately 55 lb), using assistance or mechanical aids where required. Travel: Travel to different worksites and time away from home may be required. Schedule: Hours vary by assignment and may include extended shifts, overtime, weekends, and emergency response work. The range shown is the expected base pay range for this role. Final compensation will be determined based on role requirements, experience, qualifications, work location, applicable project/site requirements, internal equity, and any applicable collective agreement or union requirements. This range does not include overtime, premiums, per diem / LOA, bonuses, benefits, or other forms of compensation unless specifically stated in the job posting.Base Pay Range$18—$22 USDForbes Bros.
