The Opportunity Put your environmental education into practice on active construction projects. Reporting to the Senior Environmental Manager, the Environmental Specialist helps project teams meet environmental requirements throughout construction, reclamation, and closeout. You’ll spend time in the field inspecting work activities, advising crews, documenting conditions, and helping address environmental risks. What You’ll Do Inspect field activities: Conduct environmental inspections and monitor construction work against project plans, permits, approvals, and other requirements. Guide crews and supervisors: Communicate site restrictions, approved work areas, and mitigation measures, providing practical guidance to crews and subcontractors. Monitor environmental controls: Verify and document measures for erosion and sediment control, spill prevention, wildlife and vegetation protection, access, watercourses, and reclamation. Identify and address issues: Document and promptly report environmental risks and deficiencies, then help track corrective actions through to completion under the environmental manager’s direction. Support planning and incident response: Help update environmental plans and procedures, and lead or support incident investigations as directed, including reporting and follow-up. Maintain clear records: Prepare inspection reports, field photographs, and other documentation to support environmental reporting, reclamation, and project closeout. Work with project teams: Participate in orientations, training, job briefings, and planning meetings, and communicate field observations to environmental leadership, construction teams, and client representatives. What You’ll Bring A diploma or degree in environmental science, environmental studies, biology, ecology, agrology, natural resources management, or a related field. A basic understanding of environmental permits, regulatory requirements, and common environmental controls used in construction. The ability to observe field conditions, identify potential issues, and communicate findings clearly and promptly. Strong organization, documentation, and written and verbal communication skills. The ability to work independently while following project direction and building effective relationships with crews, supervisors, and other stakeholders. Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office and a willingness to learn project and company systems. Experience in environmental fieldwork, linear infrastructure, or civil construction is an asset. Relevant coursework or knowledge in erosion and sediment control, spill prevention, wildlife protection, vegetation management, watercourses, or reclamation is also an asset. Work Environment & Schedule Work environment: Field-based work on active construction sites, with varying terrain, site conditions, and weather. Rotation: Four weeks on, followed by one week off. Schedule: Six days per week, working ten-hour days during the scheduled rotation. Travel: Willingness and ability to travel to project locations and work away from home during scheduled rotations. The range shown is the expected base pay range for this role. Final compensation will be determined based on role requirements, experience, qualifications, work location, applicable project/site requirements, internal equity, and any applicable collective agreement or union requirements. This range does not include overtime, premiums, per diem / LOA, bonuses, benefits, or other forms of compensation unless specifically stated in the job posting.Base Pay Range$38—$44 USDForbes Bros.
