INDUSTRIAL EQUIPMENT MECHANIC SUPERVISOR

You will serve as a INDUSTRIAL EQUIPMENT MECHANIC SUPERVISOR in the TEMPORARY SERVICES SHOP, PRODUCTION RESOURCES DEPARTMENT of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD. You will instruct workers and determine the most efficient use of tools, materials, ad equipment. You will inspect work in progress and completed projects for quality control. You will requisition tools, materials and equipment needed and determines the most efficient use of these items, supervises on needs and technical problems to avoid delays. You will attempt to salvage usable parts and equipment and initially decides when to scrap materials and equipment. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The Screen-out Element for this position is: THE ABILITY TO LEAD OR SUPERVISE: Planning sequence of operations, inspection, and preventative maintenance of the mechanical sections in the Dry Dock pumps, capstans, caissons, and high-pressure air compressors. Using the mechanical distribution system for the production and delivery of high-pressure air and pure water throughout the Shipyard. Training subordinates in work methods, procedures, proper use of equipment, safety regulations, and organization policies. Dividing workload among employees, based on the capabilities of assigned and available employees, material and equipment, on weather conditions, and in priority of projects. Monitoring the status of work and eliminating potential bottlenecks to minimize the effects of work stoppages.
