Sr. Staff Accountant

We are seeking a Senior Staff Accountant – Accounting Operations & Process Lead to join our Finance team. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced, hands-on accounting professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys solving problems, and is comfortable taking ownership of key accounting processes from beginning to end. This is not a people-management position . Instead, you will lead accounting processes, work closely with the Director of Finance, and play an important role in strengthening financial reporting, controls, efficiency, and scalability across the organization. What You'll Do In this role, you'll have the opportunity to combine technical accounting expertise with practical process improvement. Key responsibilities include: Perform and support month-end and year-end close activities, including journal entries, accruals, account reconciliations, variance analysis, financial schedules, and reporting. Maintain accurate general ledger accounts and investigate discrepancies, unusual activity, and reconciliation items through resolution. Apply GAAP and sound accounting judgment when evaluating transactions and determining appropriate accounting treatment. Take ownership of assigned accounting workflows, including financial tracking, funds-disbursement processes, reconciliations, documentation, and exception resolution. Support cash management, banking, escrow, and other reconciliation and control processes. Work closely with the Director of Finance to identify inefficiencies, control gaps, and opportunities for standardization, automation, and process improvement. Develop and maintain accounting procedures, process documentation, schedules, templates, and controls. Serve as a knowledgeable backup for critical Finance department processes to help ensure business continuity. Partner with other departments and organizational leaders on accounting projects, financial analysis, data validation, and process coordination. Assist with annual audits and external accounting requests. Prepare special analyses and reports for management while protecting confidential financial, employee, client, and organizational information. What We're Looking For We're looking for someone who understands that strong accounting is about more than completing a checklist. The right person will be curious, dependable, detail-oriented, and willing to dig into a process to understand why something works—not simply repeat how it has always been done. Qualified candidates should have at least five years of progressive accounting experience , including significant hands-on experience with general ledger accounting, reconciliations, financial reporting, and month-end close. A bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is preferred, although an equivalent combination of relevant education and progressive accounting experience may be considered. Strong knowledge of GAAP and internal controls is important, as are advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookup functions, complex formulas, data validation, and working with detailed data sets. Experience improving accounting processes, strengthening controls, standardizing workflows, or implementing automation or new tools is highly preferred. Who Will Be Successful Here?
