Master Electrician

Job Description Role Overview: The Master Licensed Electrician, under minimal supervision, assembles, plans, routes, installs, and repairs wiring and other electrical components and equipment necessary to install low voltage building automation systems. This is a lead-level field role with real autonomy: you'll run your own jobs, coordinate directly with our project management team, manage installation budgets and materials, and depending on the size and scope of the project oversee a project installation team. You'll contribute to the safety and work culture of the organization and mentor the next generation of electricians. Electrical Wiring/Installation Plan layout and installation of electrical wiring and equipment based on job specifications and local codes. Connect wires to electrical components as needed for a complete and operational system. Test electrical systems or continuity of circuits in electrical wiring or equipment using testing devices, such as ohmmeters or voltmeters, to ensure compatibility and safety of the system. Use a variety of tools or equipment, such as power construction equipment, measuring devices, power tools, and testing equipment, such as ammeters. Place conduit, pipes, or tubing inside designated partitions, walls, or other concealed areas, and pull insulated wires or cables through the conduit to complete circuits between boxes. Work from ladders, scaffolds, or roofs to install, maintain, or repair electrical wiring or equipment. Responsible for personal and team safety on jobs; may include pre-task planning and toolbox talks. Assemble, install, test, or maintain electrical or electronic wiring or equipment using hand tools or power tools. Documentation Prepare as-built documents and turn them into the Design team. Complete and submit labor and expense reports and paperwork in a timely, complete, and accurate manner. Prepare completed job documentation and participate in operational verification of systems. Participate in and may develop the customer acceptance procedure plan. Monitor, manage, and anticipate project installation budgets and notify project leadership of potential problems in advance of or as problems arise. Submit regular labor productivity reports for each managed project. Material And Equipment Prepare installation material orders and submit purchase order requests for specialized install materials such as wire, conduit, and hangers. Will visit the jobsite to obtain information pertaining to material to be ordered. Responsible for scheduling delivery of equipment and installation materials to the job site. May monitor assigned jobs for changes in materials or equipment or make change order recommendations to the Design team. May notify project leadership of changes in material requirements. Maintain close contact with installation personnel and respond to material contingencies as they arise. Project Planning Participate in project hand-off meetings; coordinate with project leadership to schedule installation resources and field labor necessary to meet project schedules. Examine job contract plans, specifications, and submittal documents, then review with the Design team to get a complete picture of the system designed. Will visit the actual jobsite for information pertaining to engineering layouts. Prepare sketches or follow blueprints to determine the location of wiring or equipment and to ensure conformance to building and safety codes. Leadership & Growth Manage your own backlog to ensure timely and accurate job completion; keep field personnel informed of job status and elevate problems as needed. Mentor and train Controls Installation Specialists I and II. Maintain proficient product knowledge, procedures, and methods, and continuously learn more advanced product applications we invest in your growth on the controls and systems side. Stay up to date on company installation standards, safety training, and current building codes as they pertain to scope of work. May be responsible for basic program duplication and assistance and/or commissioning of unitary-type control devices such as Variable Air Volume (VAV) units. Participate in startup procedures and may make minor modifications to control programs with direction from a Controls System Specialist. Required Qualifications Active Master Electrician license (all renewal costs covered by the company from day one). 5+ years of experience with mechanical and electrical systems. 5+ years of experience with test equipment, including multimeters and digital analyzers. Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, submittals, specifications, software/systems, programs, schematics, and operation/product manuals. Proficient knowledge of building codes. Proficient in use/knowledge of Microsoft Office. Preferred Qualifications Associate's degree in electrical construction or a related field — proven field experience weighs just as heavily. Proficient understanding of variable frequency drives (VFDs), and automation controls — or a strong foundation and the drive to master them; we will train the right person. Proficient understanding of Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems, including the various components and processes. Physical Requirements Ability to work from ladders, scaffolds, or roofs and in confined or concealed spaces. Ability to lift and carry materials and equipment consistent with field electrical installation work. Ability to work extended periods standing, kneeling, and reaching during installation tasks.
