Press Secretary

The AI Policy Network (AIPN) is a bipartisan, independent 501(c)(4) advocacy organization dedicated to advancing secure AI development that serves America's economic prosperity, technological leadership, and national security. We provide policymakers with technically-grounded perspectives on emerging AI capabilities and risks, with particular focus on ensuring advanced AI systems remain reliable, controllable, and aligned with their intended purposes.About AIPN The AI Policy Network (AIPN) is a bipartisan, independent 501(c)(4) advocacy organization dedicated to advancing secure AI development that serves America's economic prosperity, technological leadership, and national security. The role AIPN is hiring a Press Secretary to run our day-to-day press operation. You will own our relationships with the reporters who cover AI, technology, and national security, pitch our principals to them, and run rapid response when news breaks. This is the right job for someone who has worked a press shop on the Hill, on a campaign, or at an advocacy organization and knows reporters by name. The specific roles on this team may flex depending on the strengths of the person in this role and the person serving as the Deputy Communications Director. You may take on more direct digital work, more writing/editing work, or more principal-facing strategy. Location: Washington, D.C. (hybrid) Compensation: $90,000 – $115,000 Reports to: Communications Director Responsibilities Press operations Grow, own, and maintain AIPN's media list; serve as first point of contact for inbound press Pitch AIPN experts for print, broadcast, podcast, and newsletter coverage Draft press releases, statements, and media advisories on deadline Monitor coverage, flag developing stories, and coordinate AIPN's rapid response Prepare principals for interviews: reporter backgrounders, Q&A documents, mock questions Track and report press results; maintain the press-clip record Team Draft and distribute communications through AIPN's owned channels (social, web, email) in coordination with the rest of the comms team Contribute to messaging and talking points across the team Support events, report launches, and polling releases with press strategy and outreach Required qualifications 3–6 years of press or communications experience in a political, advocacy, government, or campaign setting Existing relationships with reporters and TV producers, or a demonstrated record of building them Fast, clean writing under deadline; comfortable drafting a statement in under an hour Experience pitching and placing stories, and preparing spokespeople for interviews Comfort working across the political spectrum Based in the D.C. area; available to commute to meetings and events in D.C. or our Capitol Hill office Preferred qualifications Relationships with technology, AI, or national security reporters Experience running rapid response in a fast-moving news environment Familiarity with media monitoring tools and social platforms Background in AI, technology, or national security policy Benefits Technology budget, stipend for health insurance, and unlimited PTO.
