# Security Specialist

Located in WHS, SESD, ISOD, this Security Specialist/Program Manager delivers comprehensive security support (physical, industrial, info, OPSEC, COOP, and mission assurance) to the OSecWar, DA&M, and DoD/Presidential boards. The incumbent leads security project management-from analysis and design to evaluation-while managing project teams, coordinating with vendors, and assisting personnel in protecting national security assets.
Incumbent typical work assignments may include the following: Executes personnel, information, physical, industrial, and communications security programs; implements robust controls to safeguard classified assets from unauthorized disclosure, theft, and espionage in accordance with EO 13526, EO 12333, and ICD 703/704/705. Leads security assessments and annual physical inspections across WHS office spaces; monitors information security compliance, drafts standard operating procedures (SOPs), and evaluates classified contracts using DD Form 254 and Statements of Work (SOW). Serves as a primary security spokesperson for WHS, coordinating with OGC, PFPA, and OSW mission partners to build an integrated security common operating picture and brief senior leaders on critical asset vulnerabilities. Plans and conducts comprehensive security education and training programs for government employees and contractors, while leading sensitive security and Insider Threat inquiries to mitigate operational risks. Provides Action Officer-level coordination and security reviews of draft DoW issuances, strategic plans, and policies regarding Continuity of Operations (COOP) and Mission Assurance (MA) to brief WHS Director-level leadership.
In order to qualify for this position, you must meet the requirements described below. You may qualify at the GS-13 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service (experience may have been gained in the private sector) that demonstrates your ability to safeguarding incoming and outgoing classified/sensitive materials; verifying courier documentation; and monitoring document marking, transmission, storage, and destruction practices to prevent unauthorized disclosure; AND conducting routine security-related assessments and annual inspections of office spaces using established checklists; AND liaising with diverse internal and external stakeholders on security requirements; drafting basic standard operating procedures (SOPs), talking papers, or briefings on security vulnerabilities. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
