Engineering Equipment Operator

About the Position: This position is located at the Anniston Munitions Center, Alabama.. This position serves as an Engineering Equipment Operator, operating heavy engineering equipment, forklifts, and cranes to perform excavation, grading, demolition support, ammunition processing, material handling, and equipment maintenance in a safe and controlled environment. Performs operator maintenance and safety checks on assigned equipment. Follow established work practices and explosive safety procedures during operations. Applies equipment operating guidance and safety standards during demolition support activities. Follows established traffic, equipment, and safety regulations during vehicle operation. Uses proper safety procedures when handling tools and equipment around explosives. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Engineering Equipment Operator without more than normal supervision. Ability to do the work of an Engineering Equipment Operator without more than normal supervision: operating heavy equipment, grading and excavating, following safety procedures, and doing basic equipment maintenance. • Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability to Do the Work of the Position without More Than Normal Supervision Ability to Drive Safely (Motor Vehicles) Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (Related to Mobile Equipment Operation) Ability to Operate Safely (Non-motor Vehicles) Operation of Motor Vehicles Reliability and Dependability Work Practices (Including Keeping Things Neat, Clean, and in Order) Work requires reaching, bending, turning and moving hands, arms, feet and legs. There is continuous jerking and jolting while operating equipment. When performing duties described in para 2, incumbent is required to frequently lift weights up to 40 pounds and occasionally up to 60 pounds. Incumbent is exposed to noise, dust, and fumes from the motor and exhaust, and is exposed to outside weather extremes and danger of overturning equipment. There is possibility of cuts, bruises and broken bones as a result of accidents. When performing duties described in para 2. is exposed to toxic agents and to the possibility of flash fires and explosions which could cause serious injury, dismemberment or loss of life. There is also possibility of burns, mashed fingers and other serious accidents. Wears such safety equipment as glasses, radio-active detection badges, goggles, face shield, flameproof coveralls, rubber aprons and respirator as necessary.
