PHYSICAL SCIENCE TECHNICIAN

You will serve as a PHYSICAL SCIENCE TECHNICIAN in the RADIATION HEALTH DIVISION, RADIOLOGICAL CONTROL OFFICE of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD. You will Perform liaison functions within and outside the shipyard (e.g., Shipyard management and Naval Dosimetry Center). You will input necessary exposure control information into the Automated Radiological Controls Management Information System (ARCMIS). You will record radiation exposure data in the occupational health record and review radiation exposure data present in the record for completeness and accuracy. You will troubleshoot equipment and/or software issues associated with the internal monitoring equipment. Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: GS-08 Experience in quality Control criteria for performing internal audits of radiation exposure records. Experience troubleshooting equipment and/or software issues associated with the internal monitoring equipment. Experience recognizing radiation health factors associated with all of the biological monitoring programs conducted by the shipyard. Experience in principles, theories, techniques, and methodologies used in the dosimetry program to control and record personnel exposure and the associated documents (e.g., Nuclear Power Manual and Corporate SOPs) used in the Shipyard dosimetry program. Experience in the equipment used to facilitate the dosimetry program such that the incumbent can troubleshoot and take corrective actions for processing problems. Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-06 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: GS-07 Experience issuing radiation dosimetric devices to Shipyard employees and visitors in accordance with written Shipyard instructions. Experience processing radiation dosimetric devices at the Shipyard, in accordance with written Shipyard and Corporate procedures to determine personnel exposure to ionizing radiation. Experience producing exposure reports and performing a complete audit of dosimetry measurement results to ensure accuracy of personnel exposure information. Experience identifying unusual circumstances requiring investigation such as equipment malfunctions unusually high or low measurements, correlation discrepancies between dosimetric results, loss of dosimetry devices, and improper dosimetry. Experience processing new devices into the system, inspecting and maintaining the integrity of existing devices, and removing defective devices from the system. Applicants may substitute the following education for the required experience, provided it includes courses directly related to the work of the position: GS-08: Successful completion of one and one-half years (27 semester hours) of directly-related graduate-level education leading to a Master's degree from an accredited college or university. GS-07: Successful completion of one full year (18 semester hours) of directly-related graduate-level education leading to a Master's degree from an accredited college or university.
