Ammunition Inspector

About the Position: The incumbent will be assigned to the 404th Army Field Support Brigade, Logistics Readiness Center, Logistics Division, at Yakima Training Center, WA. Inspect individual munitions items and related material (components, packing, containers) for specific signs of deterioration, defects, contamination, discrepancies, improper markings, malfunction, leakage, etc. Conduct visual, chemical, mechanical, functional, static, or dimensional tests in workshop, at storage location, at designated inspection station on processing line, or on test range as required by the particular activity with which engaged. Operate forklift, pneumatic hoists, and pallet jacks to support sample movements; cleans up upon completion of inspection. Assist the Quality Assurance Specialist (Ammunition Surveillance) (QASAS) by performing periodic inspections of storage sites for non-standard and hazardous methods of storing ammunition and components. Visually inspect and test lightning protection systems and components for possible deterioration that may affect serviceability. Prepare Ammunition Transfer Records for movement of samples into inspection building and return to storage. Perform a variety of operations in the renovation, modification, demilitarization, care, and preservation of ammunition and explosives, ranging from small arms up through 280 millimeter, to include mines, grenades, rockets, and chemical munitions. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Ammunition Inspector without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common Ammunition Inspector duties. I can 1) completely or partially disassemble, inspect, and/or test then reassemble munitions items or related material; 2) unpack samples to prepare them for inspection then repackage them for return to storage; and 3) provide input to improve safety on assigned operations. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. • Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The position Without More Than Normal Supervision Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (related to mobile equipment operation) Dexterity and Safety Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc. Knowledge of Materials Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) Use of Measuring Instruments Physical Effort: Work involves lifting and carrying of items weighing up to 40 pounds; working on production lines at rhythmic pace for extended periods; moving and replacing components; loading and unloading items, etc., including standing, reaching, bending, stooping, and manipulating parts, and using machines and hand tools. Working Conditions: Works inside and outside and is subject to extreme weather conditions and exposure to dirt, grease, and noise from machinery. Works with and in close proximity to unusually hazardous materials; may require use of a respirator due to odors or fumes. Must exercise extreme care to prevent fires, explosions, etc, that could result in serious injury, dismemberment, and/or loss of life to self and/or other workers. Is required to wear protective clothing which is specially made and treated for working on and around explosives and toxics (safety shoes, glasses, gas masks, rubber suits, coveralls). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
