AIRCRAFT ENGINE MECHANIC LEADER

THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This position is located in an Air National Guard (ANG) Aviation Wing, Maintenance Group, Maintenance Squadron, Propulsion Element, (Jet Engine Intermediate Maintenance (JEIM) Propeller Shop and the Hush House). DEFINITION OF AREA(S) OF CONSIDERATION: Area 1 = Enlisted members of the Louisiana National Guard. Duties & Responsibilities: (1) Provides direction to resolve problems on aircraft engines and propellers in a field level environment. Leads three or more engine mechanic subordinates in diagnosing malfunctions, troubleshooting, and evaluating propulsion performance tests to determine the disassembly necessary for repair or replacement of parts. (2) Monitors work of assigned personnel, set the work pace, convey work assignments, and ensure that materials, tools, equipment, and stock are available. Coordinates and works with aircraft mechanics and specialist personnel performing journey level work. (3) Ensures that assigned personnel are fully utilized and work is accomplished in accordance with established time frames and priorities. Checks work in progress and/or upon completion for compliance with the supervisor's instructions, appropriate technical orders, etc. Serves as a technical advisor by answering questions regarding appropriate procedures, policies, written instructions, and other directives. Ensures that all safety, housekeeping, security, and other environmental rules and procedures are followed in shop and the flight line. (4) Advises the supervisor of overall work operations, status and progress of work, causes for delays, problems encountered, and individual performance (e.g., additional on-the-job training requirements for individual employees). As requested by the supervisor, provides functional planning for the inspection docks. On a daily basis, recommends adjustments in work schedules to provide optimum utilization of personnel in support of functional requirements. (5) Routinely works with and alongside journey-level counterparts. (6) Performs other as duties as assigned. GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Must possess experience or training that has provided the ability to perform assembly and disassembly operations and make prescribed modifications to aircraft engines, engine assemblies, and accessories in accordance with technical specifications, procedures and requirements; experience using hand and power tools common to the trade. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must possess at least Eighteen (18) months of experience or training performing standard, routine assembly and disassembly operations and making prescribed modifications to aircraft engines, engine assemblies, and accessories; experience or training performing maintenance overhaul, troubleshooting, testing, and repair of aircraft engines, engine components, and power trains for fixed and/or rotary wing aircraft; experience determining maintenance needed from work orders, inspection reports, historical record, and by own diagnosis: experience demonstrating the ability to plan, organize, and lead the work of others in fields directly related to the repair function of this occupational series; must have the ability to perform administrative functions; to read and interpret a variety of technical publications used in the repair of supported equipment; the ability to guide others in work related directly to this occupational series. 1) National Guard Membership is required. 2) Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service. 3) Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation. 4) May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
