About the Position: Red River Army Depot (RRAD) is located in northeast Texas, 19 miles west of Texarkana and approximately 170 miles northeast of Dallas. RRAD is near the corners of 4 states • Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Texas. The depot's enormous maintenance mission includes the repair, rebuild, overhaul and conversion of tactical wheeled vehicles. For more information on Red River Army Depot, go to the following web site: www.redriver.army.mil. Disassemble a variety of engines used in heavy mobile and automotive equipment. Perform visual in process inspection of the items removed for obvious defects such as cracks, broken items, scoring, deep pitting, cracked heads, damaged shafts, etc. Independently perform repair/rebuild and assembly of • major fuel, mechanical, and suspension components such as final drives, differentials, steering assemblies, cooling fans, blowers, linkages, brakes, levers, cupolas, winches, etc. Perform the assembly, and adjustment of various types of combustion powered (gasoline, diesel and multi-fuel) engines at various work stations on an assembly line. Assist higher grade mechanics in making final checks, tune, and adjustment of vehicles prior to presentation for final inspection. This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Domestic Defense Industrial Base (DIB) & Major Range and Test Facilities Base (MRTFB) to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Heavy Mobile Equipment Repairer ~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common duties including disassembling combat vehicles to determine part serviceability, rebuilding suspension assemblies to operational condition, and installing engine subassemblies to restore operational readiness. I can interpret technical manuals for correct assembly sequences. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. • Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical Effort: Required to work in tiring or uncomfortable positions for long periods. Frequent bending, reaching, stretching, climbing, and crouching is required. Sometimes works on top of and under vehicles in cramped or awkward positions. Performs strenuous work while standing, lying or sitting. Frequently carries items weighing in excess of 44 pounds. Required to push, pull, turn and position parts, assemblies equipment, and tools. Lifts and moves heavier items with the assistance of other workers and with lifting devices such as jacks, hoists, and cranes. Working Conditions: Works inside and outside. Frequently exposed to drafts, changing temperatures, noise, heat, dust, fumes, oil and grease. Frequently exposed to the possibility of receiving cuts, burns, bruises, and sprains while repairing, positioning, and moving equipment. Often exposed to the possibility of receiving burns and skin irritations from acid, fluids, and lubricants. Required to follow prescribed safety practices and use safety equipment such as protective ear devices, hard hats, hard-toe shoes, respirators, and protective clothing. Safety items may be uncomfortable to wear or use, and may be worn or used for long periods.
