Senior Accountant
Mainline Services, LLC
Senior Accountant Mainline Services, LLC Kansas City, Missouri Fully on-site at our main office About the Position Mainline Services is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant. This position processes financial transactions, maintains reliable accounting records and helps ensure that financial reporting is completed on time. We are looking for a self-motivated professional who takes ownership of assigned work, follows through on details and communicates clearly when questions arise. The Senior Accountant works with the CFO, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and executive management to turn accounting information into useful financial reports. Your work will help leadership understand results, investigate differences and make informed business decisions. This role is well suited to someone who enjoys both the detailed work behind the numbers and the responsibility of explaining what those numbers mean. Primary Responsibilities Financial Transactions and General Ledger
• Record financial transactions promptly and in the appropriate accounts, using supporting documentation to confirm the purpose and accuracy of each entry.
• Prepare and maintain general ledger activity, monthly accruals and related schedules so that accounting records reflect the activity of the applicable reporting period.
• Review account balances and transaction details for unusual items, missing information, inconsistent coding or other concerns that require follow-up.
• Keep documentation organized so that another reviewer can understand an entry, locate its support and follow the reasoning behind the accounting treatment.
• Correct identified errors through the appropriate review process and communicate changes that affect other members of the accounting team. Month End and Financial Statements
• Support the accurate and timely preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements.
• Complete assigned close activities, including general ledger reviews, accruals, reconciliations and the preparation of supporting schedules.
• Review completed work for accuracy and consistency before it is submitted to the CFO or included in financial reporting.
• Track outstanding items and communicate issues that could delay the close or require management review.
• Help ensure that financial statement amounts can be traced to the accounting records and supporting documentation. Account Reconciliations and Accruals
• Prepare monthly reconciliations and supporting schedules for assigned general ledger accounts.
• Compare balances to underlying records, investigate differences and document the status of reconciling items.
• Review accrual calculations and supporting information for completeness, consistency and appropriate period treatment.
• Follow up on older or unresolved items and raise concerns when a balance lacks sufficient support.
• Maintain records that show how a reconciliation was prepared and how outstanding differences were addressed. Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable Coordination
• Work with Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable to help ensure that vouchers and payments are entered promptly and assigned to the correct general ledger accounts.
• Review coding questions and coordinate with the appropriate team members when transactions require correction or additional support.
• Address issues in a timely manner so that incomplete or inaccurate information does not continue into later reporting periods.
• Communicate clearly about what information is needed, who is following up and when an item must be resolved.
• Support consistent accounting practices through practical guidance and careful review of transaction details. This position depends on productive working relationships with the people who prepare and maintain transaction records. Bring a helpful, professional approach to questions while maintaining high standards for accuracy. Explain the reason for a requested correction so that teammates can understand the issue and reduce repeated errors. Financial Analysis and Management Reporting
• Conduct variance analysis and review changes in financial results to identify items that need explanation or further investigation.
• Compare reported amounts with relevant prior-period information and supporting records to understand the reasons for significant differences.
• Prepare clear summaries that distinguish confirmed explanations from items that remain under review.
• Work with the CFO to prepare financial reports and information for management's strategic decision-making.
• Respond to executive management requests with accurate, timely work and concise explanations of the results. Strong analysis starts with dependable information. Review the underlying data before drawing conclusions and ask questions when a change does not have a clear explanation. Your reporting should help management understand what changed, why it changed and whether additional action or investigation is needed. Present the relevant details in a way that is useful to the person making the decision. Audit Preparation and Documentation
• Prepare schedules and compile supporting documentation for the annual financial audit.
• Maintain thorough records for audits, financial reviews and management requests throughout the year.
• Organize requested information so that balances, transactions and supporting explanations can be located efficiently.
• Check that schedules agree with the accounting records before submitting them for review.
• Follow up on questions, provide additional documentation as needed and keep the CFO informed of unresolved requests. Good audit preparation begins with everyday accounting habits. Maintain clear records as work is completed, retain the support used to reach a conclusion and make sure that explanations remain understandable after the reporting period has ended. This approach helps reduce unnecessary searching and allows reviewers to focus on the substance of the accounting work. Communication and Problem Resolution
• Communicate with external parties, including the bank and CPA firm, to provide requested reports and documents as directed.
• Respond professionally to questions from management and other members of the accounting team.
• Evaluate issues, identify practical solutions and provide enough context for the appropriate person to make a decision.
• Escalate complex or sensitive matters to management rather than allowing uncertainty to remain unaddressed.
• Handle financial records and other confidential information carefully when preparing, reviewing or sharing materials. Qualifications and Professional Skills
• Three to five years of experience as a staff accountant.
• Proficiency using Microsoft Office 365.
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain orderly, accurate financial records.
• The ability to work independently, prioritize assignments and remain productive without continuous oversight.
• A self-motivated approach to completing daily responsibilities and meeting reporting deadlines.
• The ability to manage multiple tasks in a high-energy, fast-paced work environment.
• A client-focused attitude and professional communication with internal and external contacts.
• Sound judgment when evaluating risks, working through obstacles and developing solutions.
• The ability to handle personal, confidential or legally restricted information securely. We value an accountant who checks their work, notices inconsistencies and takes responsibility for resolving questions. You should be able to explain your work to a reviewer, accept feedback and apply it to future assignments. When priorities compete, communicate what is needed and keep the team informed of your progress. How You Will Contribute Success in this position means financial information is accurate, assigned work is completed on time and outstanding issues are visible to the people who can resolve them. The team should be able to rely on your schedules, understand your explanations and locate the documentation behind your work. Bring a steady, organized approach to recurring tasks and a willingness to investigate items that require additional attention. Build productive relationships with the CFO and accounting teammates, communicate promptly and use good judgment about when to work through a question independently and when to request guidance.
