Aircraft Mechanic

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This is a military technician position is with the Army Reserve Aviation Command, Aviation Support Facility Eustis East located at Fort Eustis, Virginia. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Aircraft Mechanic without more than normal supervision. Applicants must meet the screen out elements to be considered further. To meet the screen out elements, applicants should document experience in the following: troubleshooting, modifying, maintaining and repairing rotary wing aircraft and systems. Have supervised and trained lower graded mechanics. Interpret manuals and diagrams to independently determine the best repair method to accomplish the work order. Have served as the Crew Chief while conducting various maintenance operational checks and maintenance test flights. Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical effort: Makes repairs from work stands, and where parts worked on are in hard to reach places. This requires climbing, standing, stooping, bending, stretching and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts parts and equipment that weigh up to 20 pounds. Occasionally lifts and carries items that weigh about 50 pounds. Good distant vision and ability to read printed material without strain, glasses permitted. Ability to hear the conversational voice, with or without a hearing aid. Some positions require the ability to distinguish either basic or shades of colors. Applicants must possess emotional and mental stability. Working Conditions: The work at this grade is done inside and outside. Inside areas are drafty and noisy, and fumes are usually present. May make some repairs outside in bad weather. Dirt, dust, and grease are almost always present. Aircraft fluids, such as oil and hydraulic fluids may irritate the eyes or skin. There is frequent exposure to the possibility of cuts, burns, shocks, strains, and broken bones.
