Position Overview The HR Generalist position works with a broad range of human resources activities including hiring, onboarding, compliance, training and policy administration. Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties And Functions) Assists with salaried exempt, salaried non-exempt and hourly hiring process, including composition of job postings, advertisements and descriptions, screening of applications/resumes, background checks, interviewing of candidates, offer letter preparation. Coordination of drug screenings and conducting new hire orientations. Ensures proper paperwork is completed and forwarded to appropriate personnel. Maintains electronic database of human resources forms and employment records. Assists with administrative responsibilities and special projects, including compilation of data, data analysis and report preparation/generation. Responsible for EEO/AAP Compliance process and reporting. Conducts New Hire Orientation and coordinates onboarding. Assists with required training, including preparation, review and distribution. Assists with development and maintenance of corporate policies and procedures and maintains electronic database. Attends Job Fairs on behalf of the company, creating meaningful partnerships and maintaining ongoing relationships. Processes employee terminations, including entry, calculations and routing of appropriate paperwork. Coordinates and documents all claims and reports relating to specific state workforce development and unemployment offices. Where applicable, coordinates and maintains company specific benefit plans, specifically, but not limited to Health, Dental, Vision, Life and 401K benefits. When applicable, conducts and documents HR related investigations, including, but not limited to, EEO complaints, harassment complaints and general employee issues. Assists with revision and development of employee handbook as needed. Responsible for administering and tracking employee requests as they pertain to FMLA, NYS PFL and ADA. Coordinates with safety to provide information on workers compensation claims. Maintains professional demeanor in dealing with critical/confidential information; restricts discussion/knowledge of activity to a “need to know” basis. Regular and predictable attendance at assigned times is required. Other duties as may be assigned. Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education/Experience Associates degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or related discipline preferred. Five years’ experience in human resources required. Experience as HR generalist strongly preferred. Bi-Lingual in Spanish preferred Experience in a construction environment preferred PHR or SHRM-CP is a plus. Valid state driver’s license and satisfactory driving record is required. Work Requirements Must be 18 years in age or older. Must pass pre-employment physical, drug screen and criminal background check. Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook. Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required. Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required (less than 25%) Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.(less than 10%) Knowledge/Skill Requirements Knowledge of human resources policies and procedures as well as employment and labor laws. Highly effective oral and written communication skills required. Ability to operate office equipment including, but not limited to: computers, copiers, ten key adding machine, printers, etc. Proficiency of MS Excel and Word applications required. Ability to work in a team environment. Ability to analyze issues independently. Ability to perform under deadline pressure. Ability to understand and follow complex verbal and written instructions. Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency. Physical Requirements The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Able to stand, walk, use hands and fingers to manipulate objects, talk and hear. Vision abilities (with correction) include close, distance, peripheral, depth, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee is frequently required to sit and use hands. The employee is frequently required to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
