Position Information Job Series: Accountants Classification: Accountant I – Career Path Class Code: FAC01P Pay Grade: SPC01 Salary Range: $58,700 - $86,876 Job Summary The Accountant I is responsible for performing professional accounting and financial tasks within a department. This position involves processing financial transactions, preparing reports, reconciling accounts, and ensuring compliance with state financial regulations and policies. The Accountant I will work closely with other financial staff to ensure accuracy and consistency in the agency’s financial operations. Primary Responsibilities Prepare and maintain financial records, ensuring accuracy and completeness of all transactions. Assist in the preparation of financial reports, budgets, and forecasts in accordance with state regulations and policies. Reconcile accounts, ensuring discrepancies are identified and resolved in a timely manner. Prepare journal entries and ensure all entries are properly documented and in compliance with state accounting standards. Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions, ensuring accuracy and proper documentation. Knowledge And Skills Familiarity with governmental accounting principles, financial reporting, and budgeting processes. Proficient in accounting software (e.g., PeopleSoft, QuickBooks, Microsoft Excel) and standard office applications. Skilled in preparing and presenting financial statements, budgets, and reports. Understanding of state and federal financial regulations and accounting standards. Minimum Qualifications A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field from an accredited college or university. Satisfaction of the minimum qualifications, including years of experience and service, does not entitle employees to automatic progression within the job series. Promotion to the next classification level is at the discretion of the department and the Office of Personnel Management, taking into consideration the employee’s demonstrated skills, competencies, performance, workload responsibilities, and organizational needs. Licensure/Certifications N/A OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
