Senior Backend Engineer (Fintech startup)

We're recruiting a Senior Backend Engineer for a venture-backed fintech startup in Seattle. They help everyday people build credit and get cash when they need it. The product has real customers, and now the team is rebuilding its cash advance platform from a scrappy prototype into something that can handle hundreds of millions in originations. This is a generalist backend role. You get handed a business outcome and you own the tech to get there. What you'd own: • Rebuilding the core backend: ledger, transaction processing, payment integrations, built for 5-10x growth • Collection systems that run targeted transactions across thousands of small advances every day, reliably • Pipelines that pull in large volumes of customer banking data to power underwriting and collections • Event-driven systems on Pub/Sub with async workflows • Using SQL and data to make engineering calls and show the business impact Stack: Go, GCP, Pub/Sub, Spanner, BigQuery, MySQL, Kubernetes. Go isn't required if your backend depth is real. You're probably a fit if you have: • 2-5 years of full-time engineering, at least half of it backend • Time at a seed to Series B startup where you shipped something that moved a real number • Hands-on distributed systems experience in production • Comfort writing SQL and using metrics to make decisions • A BS in Computer Science or similar • Bonus: fintech, payments, lending or ledger work Who this isn't for: • Folks whose whole career is Big Tech with no startup time • 7+ years, staff, principal or manager level (the range really is 2-5) • Anyone currently freelancing or contracting, or with a lot of short stints • Mostly frontend or ETL-only profiles • Anyone who can't be in the Seattle office 5 days a week Pay: $120K to $200K base plus equity.
