Traffic Civil Engineer Co-Op

In this role, you'll work alongside early career and experienced engineers to gain an understanding of traffic design and consulting. You'll gain hands-on experience across areas that could include traffic and capacity studies, crash and safety analysis, traffic modeling or traffic control, while developing the technical skills and problem-solving abilities that will create a foundation for your career. What You’ll Do Under the direction of experienced technical staff, you’ll learn design analysis skills for a variety of traffic engineering design projects for state DOTs and/or local municipalities Projects may include capacity analysis, safety analysis, data collection, signing and pavement marking design, signal and maintenance of traffic design Assist engineers with developing reports that summarize traffic and safety analyses for large interchange projects or urban and rural roadways and intersections Assist engineers with project scoping and final design, such as developing construction plans, cost estimates, and specifications using design tools such as MicroStation and AutoCAD Skills & Qualifications Current undergraduate student in good academic standing pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering or related field from an ABET-accredited program and completion of one year coursework required A strong interest in traffic engineering; previous co-ops are a plus Experience with Microsoft Office, specifically Outlook, Excel, and Word Ability to learn PDF markup/review tools, such as BlueBeam Revu or Adobe Acrobat Ability to learn MicroStation/OpenRoads Designer or AutoCAD/Civil3D drawing software packages, direct experience is a plus Excellent communication skills and a willingness to collaborate, learn, and grow Availability to work part-time Fall 2026 and Spring 2027 Semesters Availability to work full-time Summer 2027 Semester Typical work schedule is Monday – Friday, 30 – 40 hours per week.
