Electrician

This position is located in the Maintenance Section, Facilities Management Branch, Division of Administration Services, Shiprock Service Unit, Shiprock, New Mexico. The incumbent serves as a Journeyman Electrician responsible for maintaining, repairing, installing, and troubleshooting electrical systems and equipment to support safe and reliable facility operation A REAL ID will be required beginning May 7, 2025, in accordance with 6 C.F.R. 37.5 (2021). Installs, modifies, repairs, maintains, troubleshoots, tests, and loads electrical systems, circuits, fixtures, controls, and equipment, including secondary power distribution, switchgear, emergency generators, transformers, variable frequency drives, and industrial multiphase systems. Tests and maintains specialized electrical and safety systems, including load banks, thermocouple sensors, intrusion alarms, security cameras, fire alarms, emergency warning systems, lightning protection, and high-intensity lighting systems Interprets building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, engineering drawings, and electrical maintenance manuals to plan and lay out electrical systems, including routing, placement, sizing, load balancing, continuity, and safe operation. Determines the placement of distribution panels, boxes, fittings, and connections, and installs wiring, conduit, fixtures, transformers, service entrances, and other electrical devices. Demonstrates proficiency in residential and complex industrial electrical systems, circuits, equipment, and controls to independently plan and lay out work, troubleshoot difficult defects, and complete repairs and installations with minimal supervision, with completed work reviewed for compliance with accepted trade standards. Physical Effort: Performs electrical repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding, platforms, and other difficult-to-access locations, requiring frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, and climbing while working in tiring or uncomfortable positions; regularly lifts and carries tools, equipment, and parts weighing up to 20 pounds, occasionally up to 40 pounds, and with assistance moves heavier objects exceeding 40 pounds. Working Conditions: Performs electrical repairs and installations indoors and outdoors, including in adverse weather, noisy, dirty, dusty, and greasy environments; works at heights of 30 feet or more on scaffolding or cranes and in confined spaces such as manholes and attics, with exposure to hazards including electrical shock, falls, fumes, burns, infectious pathogens, rotating equipment, cuts, and bruises.
