Graphic Designer

Job Summary Support graphic design process for station promotion, local productions, pledge, and other design projects. Design process includes both implementing existing PBS Utah, KUER, and Avanza branding and assisting in creating new brand packages for local programming and other station events and initiatives. Present ideas to Director of Marketing Adjust designs to fit project needs and project lead's input and feedback Follow project schedules and meet deadlines Use Adobe Creative Suite and Canva to execute designs Collaborate with marketing team and other departments to complete projects for three stations: PBS Utah, KUER, and Avanza Work with external vendors to see projects through to completion Learn more about the great benefits of working for University of Utah: benefits.utah.edu The department may choose to hire at any of the below job levels and associated pay rates based on their business need and budget. Responsibilities Works alongside other graphic designer and with Director of Marketing to brainstorm and execute project needs. Researches and studies ideas related to each project as necessary; Design original work that will appropriately communicate the intent of the project. Designs a wide range of artistic material, e.g. digital and print ads, logo, catalogs, posters, brochures, one-sheets, stickers, web and social media images, etc. Communicates with printers to ensure timely printing and delivery of files. Regularly back-up projects and maintain archives. Reporting Relationship This position reports to the stations' Director of Marketing. Minimum Qualifications EQUIVALENCY STATEMENT: 1 year of higher education can be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience (Example: bachelor's degree = 4 years of directly related work experience). Department may hire employee at one of the following job levels: Graphic Designer, II: Requires a bachelor's (or equivalency) + 4 years or a master's (or equivalency) + 2 years of directly related work experience. Preferences Candidate should have a commitment to the core values of PBS Utah, KUER and Avanza and have the ability to be mindful of the varied voices and lived experiences in our community that broaden perceptions and find common ground. Bachelor's Degree in Graphic Design preferred; Illustration, or a related area, or equivalency acceptable Artistic sensibility and creativity; solid foundations in color, composition, typography A portfolio at the time of the interview Communication ability; candidate should be able to effectively present ideas to stakeholders, accept criticism in the interest of the best design, and work to achieve the ideal end product for all parties; a commitment to provide excellent customer service Problem solving; ideal candidate will have demonstrated ability to create new ideas quickly and under pressure while balancing appropriate design for the project and bringing new design ideas to the table. The ability to meet deadlines is essential. Technical competency; must be proficient in Adobe CC software programs and experienced with designing for both print and web. Full Time Work Schedule Summary: This is a benefits-eligible position. 40 hours per week. Schedule may be flexible, but hours must be worked between 8 am and 5 pm Monday-Friday.
