The candidate selected for this position will serve as the Service Chief for the Audiology and Speech Pathology (A&SP) Service at the VA Nebraska-Western Iowa Health Care System.
Duties may include but are not limited to: Manage and direct the Unified Audiology and Speech Pathology (A&SP) sections. Supervis, administratively manag and direct Audiology and Speech Pathology (A&SP) clinic programs. Provide overall technical and administrative oversight for operations within service. Provide orientation/training of medical staff, new staff, students and trainees providing feedback on progress toward establishing educational and professional goals. Keep current with theory and practice through continuing education programs, journals, textbooks and other literature and in-service programs and uses knowledge of contemporary audiology and speech pathology practice in the day-to-day oversight of the clinic. Provide in-service education for partnering services to provide quality interdisciplinary care for patients. Develop, organize, direct, manage, control and implement policies and procedures in the A&SP clinical programs. Plan, assess, and evaluate programs to ensure proper coordination between health care delivered by the A&SP service and overall delivery of health care within the facility. Make decisions with wide latitude of control and independent judgement. Exercise supervisory responsibilities/delegate responsibilities to subordinate staff for planning, scheduling work, assigning work to employees, accepting, amending or rejecting competed work, assuring that production and accuracy requirements are met, appraising performance and recommending performance standards and ratings, assigning delineated clinical privileges, appropriate leave, and effecting disciplinary measures. Develop and direct educational and training programs, negotiate affiliation agreements with academic partners and setting training objectives. Establish and monitor productivity standards as well as production and performance priorities and manage the work of others to accomplish program goals and missions. Accommodate new and changing work conditions and contingencies, staffing. Translate management goals and objectives into well-coordinated and controlled service operations. Direct responsibility for development and oversight and adherence of the service level budget. Monitor and report on status and progress of work, evaluate program quality to ensure that methods, deadlines and quality have been met; and make adjustments to accomplish the workload in accordance with established priorities. Doctor of Audiology (AUD) from an audiology program recognized by the Accreditation Commission for Audiology Education (ACAE) or Council on Academic Accreditation (CAA) of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). HR office staff and management officials may verify a program's accreditation from ACAE at acaeaccred.org and CAA at caa.asha.org OR Other doctoral degree in hearing science or a directly related field from an institution accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education License. Individuals must hold a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice audiology at the doctoral level in a United States state, territory, commonwealth, or the District of Columbia. May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). Grade Determinations: Supervisory Audiologist, GS-14. Experience. At least three years of experience as a professional audiologist, with at least one year comparable to the next lower grade level, must fully meet the KSAs at that level. Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs). In addition to the experience above, the candidate must demonstrate the following KSAs: (a) Skill in promoting collaboration to accomplish goals. (b) Skill in translating management goals and objectives into efficient service operations. (c) Skill in balancing operational resources to ensure appropriate delivery of service operations. (d) Ability to supervise staff. (e) Ability to effectively interact and collaborate with local, VISN and/or national leadership. (f) Ability to establish and monitor productivity standards, production and performance priorities to achieve management goals and objectives.
