About the Position: This position is with Tripler Army Medical Center (TAMC) in the Directorate of Nursing Department Mother Baby Unit in Honolulu, Hawaii. Tripler Army Medical Center is a tobacco-free workplace. Tobacco products include, but are not limited to, smoking, smokeless tobacco, and electronic nicotine delivery devices.
Perform a variety of nursing care duties within the scope of practice, ranging from routine to moderately specialized in nature within patient-care units such as clinics, wards/nurseries.
Change linen, position and turn bedridden patients.
Assist with feeding patients requiring help, monitor intake and output, monitor tube placement and line placement while moving patient
Provide assistance to a professional nurse in the care of inpatients ranging from routine to seriously ill.
Provide assistance to a doctor during examination and treatment in areas by the bedside, clinics, examining rooms, and minor surgical procedures.
Set up equipment and instruments for routine and complex examinations and procedures.
Answer signal lights, bells, or intercom system to determine patients' needs.
Assist with retrieving medications from the pharmacy and delivering specimens to the laboratory.
Greets and direct visitors and answers telephone.
Obtain basic history, physical information, and chief complaint for patients visiting ambulatory clinics.
Reinforce patient education and instructions.
Perform EKGs, throat, nasal and/or wound cultures, dressing changes, ear irrigation, and application of bandages.
Maintain adequate supplies in patient care areas, labels specimens, monitors stock levels and expiration dates of supplies and equipment and replenishes.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Providing support to adult and pediatric patients; 2) Assisting medical personnel with the preparation of supplies needed for common procedures; and 3) Performing administrative tasks. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). OR Education: Four year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.
FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university. Only degrees from an accredited college or university recognized by the Department of Education are acceptable to meet positive education requirements or to substitute education for experience.
