Reporting to the Director of FP&A, you'll partner primarily with our R&D organization — product and engineering — as the finance lead for how we understand and manage the cost of running Honeycomb. You'll take ownership of our BI and planning tool (Pigment), continue and improve our cloud-hosting-cost (COGS) analysis, and support R&D capitalization, forecasting, and planning. This role suits someone who takes initiative, solves problems analytically, and actively drives process improvements in a fast-paced environment, and who's comfortable collaborating cross-functionally with engineering, product, data, and IT. What you’ll do in the role: Own and improve our cloud-hosting-cost (COGS) analysis — breaking hosting spend (e.g., compute, storage, and AI/LLM usage) down by area and by customer to understand customer-level usage and margin Take ownership of Pigment, our BI and planning tool — building and maintaining reports and supporting forecasting and monthly and quarterly close Partner with engineering on R&D capitalization, capitalizing engineering time for the products they help build Run forecasting and planning for the R&D organization, including headcount and software planning Track and help manage our AI/LLM tooling costs, monitoring usage against budget Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, product, data, and IT to improve our financial processes and reporting Support the finance team on special projects and ad-hoc analysis, with a focus on improving processes and scalability as we grow What you’ll bring to the role: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a comparable field — or equivalent practical experience 5+ years of FP&A, strategic planning, or P&L management experience at a SaaS company A technical orientation, with the ability to partner directly with engineering and product teams Expert in Excel and Google Sheets, comfortable with a range of modeling techniques, and able to build analysis and models that influence decisions Experience with ERP and financial planning/BI tools — Pigment (or a comparable tool such as Mosaic) a strong plus Comfortable in an ambiguous, fast-paced environment: driving results, solving complex problems, and exercising judgment across multiple sources of information Strong quantitative skills and the ability to connect the dots across data sources to inform decisions Familiarity with cloud/hosting cost structures, R&D capitalization, or SQL a plus Base Salary based on level of experience$125,000—$170,000 USD What you'll get when you join the Hive: A stake in our success • generous equity with employee-friendly stock program It’s not about how strong of a negotiator you are • our pay is based on transparent levels relative to experience Time to recharge with unlimited PTO A distributed-first mindset and culture (really!)
