Engineering Technician

As an Engineering Technician at Lexington Medical, you will write and maintain automated inspection programs in MeasureMind 3D on our OGP SmartScope systems and design CAD fixtures for surgical stapler components. When an inspection program misbehaves, you are the first call, and you keep production moving without waiting on engineering. Because engineering, manufacturing, and quality work together under one roof, the people building and supporting our products are close to both the process and the decisions behind it.  About the Role  As an Engineering Technician at Lexington Medical, you will join the Quality Control team supporting production of our AEON™ surgical stapling products. Your core work is building and maintaining automated measurement programs in MeasureMind 3D, the software that runs our OGP SmartScope vision systems: setting up the camera moves, lighting, and focus so each component is measured the same way every time. You will also design fixtures in CAD, from cut acrylic nests that hold welded assemblies during inspection to fixtures used for final product inspection on the production floor.  You do not need to arrive as an OGP or MeasureMind 3D expert. If you can read an engineering drawing, have designed or built fixtures, and are comfortable picking up new software, we will teach you MeasureMind 3D; people with that foundation learn it quickly here. Because Quality, Engineering, and Manufacturing share one building in Bedford, you will work directly with the engineers who own each drawing, and as you grow you will take on broader engineering technician projects supporting our existing product lines.  Responsibilities:  Build, modify, and maintain automated MeasureMind 3D inspection programs on OGP SmartScope systems for incoming and manufactured components used in AEON™ surgical staplers. Troubleshoot, calibrate, and adjust MeasureMind 3D programs when results drift or a run fails, resolving routine issues without pulling in engineering. Design fixtures in CAD (SolidWorks or similar), including cut acrylic nests for welded assemblies and fixtures for final product inspection, and see them through fabrication and use on the floor. Read engineering drawings and GD&T callouts and turn them into MeasureMind 3D measurement routines with sound datums, alignments, and optical settings. Keep inspection throughput ahead of production by improving program cycle time, fixturing, and setup methods. Update programs and fixtures as drawings and component revisions change, and document them so any trained operator can run them consistently. Maintain the MeasureMind 3D program library, including revision history and backups, so every program on the floor matches the current released drawing. Train QC inspectors and operators to run MeasureMind 3D programs, load fixtures correctly, and handle routine setup issues on their own. Work with Quality, Manufacturing, and Engineering to determine whether a disputed measurement points to the part, the program, or the fixture. Support broader engineering technician projects on existing product lines as capacity allows.   Qualifications:  Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, mechanical engineering technology, manufacturing engineering, or a related field preferred; an associate degree or technical training paired with relevant hands-on experience will also be considered. Recent graduates are encouraged to apply. Working knowledge of CAD and experience designing parts or fixtures, whether through coursework, co-ops, projects, or work. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, with a working understanding of GD&T. Mechanically inclined and comfortable with hands-on work: building, adjusting, measuring, and figuring out why something is not working. Comfort learning new software, with some exposure to programming, scripting, or machine or automation setup. Methodical troubleshooting habits and strong attention to detail. Experience programming OGP SmartScope systems in MeasureMind 3D is a plus; experience with other vision measurement systems or CMM software is also valued. Co-op, internship, machine shop, or makerspace experience building physical devices is a plus.  What Success Looks Like  Within three months, you are running and troubleshooting existing MeasureMind 3D programs on your own and have designed your first inspection fixture. By six months, you are writing new MeasureMind 3D programs from a drawing that hold up under validation, and engineering is no longer pulled in for routine program issues. By one year, the program library is documented and current with drawing revisions, inspection keeps pace with production, and you are taking on broader engineering technician projects.   Location & Work Arrangement  This position is based at our headquarters in Bedford, Massachusetts, in the Greater Boston area, and is an on-site role.
