Senior Mainframe Systems Programmer

Experience: 10+ years of IT experience with strong Mainframe experience Must-Have Skills 1. IBM z/OS / MVS Systems Programming – strong hands-on experience 2. Technical leadership, project/program management, and stakeholder communication Responsibilities • Support and manage enterprise Mainframe environments running IBM z/OS. • Perform Mainframe systems programming, software installation, upgrades, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting. • Install and maintain IBM and third-party Mainframe software using SMP/E. • Support Mainframe communication and infrastructure components, including VTAM, TCP/IP, IBM Connect, CA Session Manager, and CA Spool. • Work with JCL, ISPF/TSO, system utilities, monitoring tools, and Mainframe infrastructure. • Support software lifecycle management, including installation, maintenance, upgrades, and technology modernization. • Participate in Mainframe architecture, platform planning, technical design, and infrastructure improvements. • Identify opportunities for automation, modernization, standardization, and operational improvement. • Work closely with Data Center Services, Production Services, Application Development, Security, and other technology teams. • Lead or support complex technical projects and programs. • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to Mainframe engineers and systems programmers. • Communicate complex technical information clearly to engineering teams, management, business stakeholders, and other organizations. • Help develop and maintain standards, processes, frameworks, and best practices for the Mainframe platform. Preferred Skills • Experience with BMC AMI OPS Automation • Experience with BMC AMI OPS Monitors • Experience with BMC AMI Output Management, including Control-D and Control-V • Experience with BMC Console Management • Experience with IBM Operating System software installation and maintenance • Experience with ACF2, RACF, or TSS • Experience with DB2, IMS, and CICS • ITIL / ITSM experience • Release, Change Management, and CMDB experience • Source code management and SDLC experience • Financial services or securities industry experience • Experience leading Mainframe modernization or automation initiatives SMP/E Experience – Important Candidates should provide specific details regarding their SMP/E experience, including: • Mainframe software components they have installed using SMP/E • Version/release numbers, when available • Software components they have upgraded using SMP/E • The maintenance level they upgraded the software to • Approximate year of the installation or upgrade if the exact release/maintenance level is not available Examples of relevant SMP/E experience: IBM z/OS, major IBM subsystems, ISV software, utilities, monitoring tools, communication software, or other enterprise Mainframe components. Leadership & Architecture This is not limited to a hands-on technician role. Required Experience • 10+ years of IT experience with significant Mainframe experience. • Strong experience as a z/OS or MVS Systems Programmer. • Hands-on experience installing, supporting, administering, and maintaining Mainframe software. • Experience working in large-scale enterprise Mainframe environments. • Experience leading technical projects, programs, or infrastructure initiatives. • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills. • Ability to work across infrastructure, application, security, data center, and production teams.
