Job Description : The Staff Accountant is primarily responsible for the journal entries and reconciliations for select areas of the general ledger including but not limited to cash, prepaids, fixed assets, and accrued liabilities. Additionally, the Staff Accountant will support the Senior Accountant with clinical trial accounting procedures and may also have the opportunity to assist with various ad hoc projects as they arise. This role is vital in ensuring that assigned general ledger areas are accurate, complete, and timely reported. This position reports to the Senior Accountant and is based at the Company’s office in San Diego, California. Duties and Responsibilities: Timely completion of assigned month end processes including preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations, and other supporting schedules, if applicable. Prepare and maintain cash reconciliations for our various bank accounts. Prepare and maintain prepaid amortization schedules and verify all items are being properly capitalized and amortized. Prepare and maintain the fixed asset ledgers and verify all items are properly capitalized and depreciated. Assist with the preparation of our accrued liability workpapers. Assist the Senior Accountant with clinical trial accounting procedures and other duties as assigned. Ensure compliance with Company’s accounting and internal control policies as they relate to assigned areas. Establish and maintain excellent working relationships with critical collaborative partners throughout the company. Perform other duties and/or complete finance and accounting related projects as required. Education and experience 1+ years of accounting experience. BA/BS in accounting, finance, or related field required. Specialized knowledge: General understanding of US GAAP highly preferred. Highly motivated with the ability to work independently; adaptable to working on multiple tasks and projects simultaneously. Ability and willingness to meet business critical deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities, take directions, and be able to work both independently and as a team member. Requires strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing. Well organized and strong attention to detail. Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and Outlook is required. An understanding of financial accounting systems; NetSuite experience is a plus. Compensation: This is a full-time position, Monday-Friday, occasional overtime. Pay is commensurate with experience. This role may also be eligible for short-term or long-term incentive compensation, including but not limited to cash bonuses.
