The Program Support Assistant Office Automation (OA) position is located at the Audie L. Murphy VA in San Antonio, TX within Social Work Service (SWS). This position provides administrative/clerical support to a complex SWS with over 190 licensed clinicians that provide clinical care to all departments of South Texas Veterans Health Care System (STVHCS). The incumbent provides customer service coordination, data analysis and compiles data to meet goals and program guidelines in SWS.
Duties may include but are not limited to: Uses Microsoft Excel or other comparable spreadsheet software to develop and change spreadsheets in order to graphically display data. Uses Microsoft Word or comparable word processing software to execute several office automation functions such as storing and retrieving electronic documents and files; inserting and deleting text formatting letters, reports and memoranda. Utilizing Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Publisher, or comparable software the PSA (OA) prepares materials for publications such as pamphlets, forms, graphs, or technical manuals. Functions as a timekeeper and documents SWS staff time and leave as required following STVHCS policy and national regulation. Utilizes the Veterans Health Information and Technology Architecture (VISTA) to access and compile information. Serves as an Automated Data Processing Application Coordinator (ADPAC) to support SWS staff in the acquisition of equipment such as telephones, computers, printers, fax machines, laptops, cellular phones, tablets from the Office of Information Technology (OIT). Travel arranger utilizing the federal travel program to assist SWS staff with travel orders, including travel vouchers and authorizations. Performs proficient clerical and administrative support, ensuring appropriate administrative processes are maintained in SWS. Receives calls and routes callers, patients, and visitors. Maintains calendars, schedules appointments, coordinates meetings, and schedules conferences between various SWS program staff and all staff disciplines throughout the STVHCS. To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 10/13/2026. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education s described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Knowledge of medical terminology; Providing administrative support to a team, including but not limited to timekeeping, receiving and responding to phone calls, emails, and other messages, using electronic filing systems, possess the knowledge to research and review available records and locate required documentation form a variety of sources. Preparing reports, assisting in planning, reviewing data. Maintains automated system of program specific data to track items such as project progress reports, compliance strategies. Receives documents and reports for completeness and enters pertinent information into an automated tracking system. Skill in use of Microsoft Work, Outlook, and Excel programs, scheduling, and other VISTA packages as indicated by duties of the position.
