Senior Property Accountant
Placemaker Properties
At Placemaker Properties, accurate financial information helps us make better decisions about our properties. We’re looking for a Senior Property Accountant who takes ownership of their work, asks thoughtful questions, and helps improve how accounting gets done. You’ll manage accounting and financial reporting for an assigned portfolio of commercial and mixed-use properties, working closely with property managers, the accounting team, and company leadership. Your work will help deliver reliable financial statements, explain property performance, and resolve issues. What You’ll Do Own property accounting and month-end close, including journal entries, accruals, account reconciliations, and financial statement preparation. Turn financial results into useful information by investigating budget variances, explaining performance, and identifying issues early. Maintain accurate commercial lease accounting, including rent, recoveries, concessions, tenant improvements, and tenant billings. Support annual CAM, tax, and insurance reconciliations in partnership with property managers, who lead the reconciliation process. Partner with property managers on budgets and forecasts, providing historical data, financial analysis, and clear answers to accounting questions. Support cash, lender, and ownership reporting, along with audits, tax preparation, and other reporting requests. Improve processes and strengthen consistency across reconciliations, reporting, documentation, and accounting system usage. What You’ll Bring Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. At least five years of progressive accounting experience, including responsibility for month-end close and financial statement preparation. Strong knowledge of accrual accounting, GAAP, and balance sheet reconciliations. Ability to manage multiple properties or entities and meet deadlines while maintaining accuracy. Strong Excel skills and the ability to communicate financial information clearly. An independent, practical approach to solving problems and improving processes. Real estate or property accounting experience is strongly preferred, especially experience with commercial properties and CAM reconciliations. Experience with Entrata or a comparable property accounting system is preferred. A CPA designation or public accounting background is a plus, but not required. Why Placemaker? At Placemaker, you’ll see how your work shapes decisions across the properties you support. You’ll work directly with property managers and company leadership, with opportunities to ask questions, share ideas, and put improvements into practice. If you enjoy taking ownership, solving problems, and helping people understand the story behind the numbers, you’ll have room to make a meaningful contribution here. Compensation and Benefits Annual salary of $85,000–$95,000, depending on experience and qualifications. Medical, dental, and vision insurance. Company-paid short-term disability and life insurance. 401(k) with company match up to 4%. Paid time off. Nine paid holidays each year.
