Senior Backend Engineer / Backend Software Engineer $190,000 - $210,000 + Technical Ownership + Training Stipend + Progression + Stock Options New York City, NY (Commutable from: Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, Jersey City, Hoboken, Newark, Long Island City, Staten Island) Are you a Backend Engineer or Senior Software Engineer looking for real ownership of a core API and the chance to grow into a Staff-level scope as a product scales? Do you want to build transactional systems where your design decisions set the pattern other engineers follow? On offer is a high-impact opportunity with a well-funded travel-tech/hospitality platform, where you’ll take technical ownership of an external booking API used by distribution partners and approved AI agents. You’ll partner with a Staff Engineer on foundational architecture, with clear support for development through monthly feedback and a training stipend for courses/certifications. As a result of continued growth and expansion into new verticals (including spas), they’re adding to the team to scale the platform. In this role you’ll design and build “bulletproof” transactional workflows (inventory constraints, idempotency, concurrency, webhooks, failure recovery) across Node.js services backed by Postgres on AWS with Datadog. This role would suit a Senior Backend Engineer who wants deeper technical ownership, platform-level impact, and a genuine path toward Staff through delivery and influence. The Role: Own API design and day-to-day technical decisions for an external booking API Build transactional workflows: inventory constraints, idempotency, concurrency, webhooks, failure recovery Evolve booking domain/data models supporting multiple product categories and integrations On-site role in NYC, Monday–Thursday 9:30am • 5:30pm The Person: Strong backend engineering experience in Node.js Hands-on experience with Postgres and AWS (bonus: Datadog, Redis, Kafka) Enjoys owning systems end-to-end and setting patterns for other engineers Able to be in New York 4 days per week.
