Company Description Saginaw Charter Township, a municipality of approximately 41,000, is seeking one full-time employee to fill a position in the Department of Public Services (DPS). Saginaw Charter Township is the hub of Saginaw County, and an integral member of the Great Lakes Bay Region. Located in the heart of the Lower Peninsula, Saginaw Township is only a 30-minute drive from Lake Huron. The DPS helps to maintain our vast network of sewer and watermains providing high-quality services to our residents. The Township has over 250 miles of watermain, over 14,000 water service connections and over 210 miles of sewer main; all maintained by the DPS. The DPS also helps to maintain our Township buildings, vehicles, equipment and a vast network of parks and pathways providing high-quality services to our residents. This position has excellent benefits and competitive wages, starting at $33.35/hr. Role Description Under the supervision of the Director / Assistant Director of Public Services or Operations Superintendent, performs all duties and operations necessary to maintain an on-going water distribution system. Using maps and other means, verify field location of water distribution valves, curb boxes, sewer manholes, water/sanitary sewer mains, and associated service lines, as needed, for maintenance and per request by Miss Dig. Exercise water distribution system valves. Using GIS software, plot location of valves, curb boxes, and service lines in field. Compile information such as: Location, Size, Direction of Opening, Year of Installation, Material, and all other pertinent information. Maintain and repair fire hydrants, implement annual flushing program. Install new meters/registers and repair/replace old ones; investigate work orders for high and low usages and prepare various forms connected with the work. Perform duties and operations as required by DPS management. Qualifications Ability to perform field work related to water distribution systems, including installation, maintenance, and repair of piping, valves, hydrants, and meters with at least 3 years of experience in a related field . Skill in using hand tools, power tools, and basic construction or utility equipment; ability to learn and safely operate specialized water system equipment. Knowledge of or willingness to learn water system regulations, safety standards, and best practices, including confined space, traffic control, and trench safety. Basic mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills to identify leaks, pressure issues, and equipment malfunctions and assist in corrective actions. Ability to read and interpret maps, plans, and work orders; maintain accurate logs, reports, and inventory records. Strong teamwork and communication skills to collaborate with colleagues, respond to residents courteously, and follow supervisory instructions. State of Michigan EGLE S-2 certification High school diploma or equivalent; prior experience in public works, utilities, plumbing, or construction is preferred. Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record; a Class B commercial drivers license with airbrakes and tank endorsement. Physical ability to perform manual labor, including lifting, digging, and working in outdoor environments and adverse weather conditions. Willin gness to participate in standby or on-call rotations and respond to after-hours emergencies when needed.
