Full Stack Engineer

Designed specifically for law enforcement, fire, EMS, lifeguards, volunteers and emergency management, our platform connects staffing, overtime, off-duty assignments, events, incidents, court coordination, mutual aid, logistics, equipment management, and cost recovery in one system. For our engineers, that means solving consequential problems in workflow automation, secure access, and real-time visibility and building intuitive software for the people who keep communities safe. Our Team You will work closely with our Lead Platform Architect and company leadership, contributing to technical decisions and delivering production-ready solutions across the platform. We collaborate across product, UI/UX, security, and customer success to translate business needs into platform improvements. Engineers have a voice in how the product evolves and help establish the engineering practices that support our growth. Role Caleo is seeking a Full Stack Engineer with at least six years of professional software engineering experience to build, scale, and support our cloud-native SaaS platform. You will work across user-facing applications, backend services, APIs, and AWS serverless infrastructure, with a focus on security, reliability, and intuitive user experiences. You will build responsive interfaces, secure GraphQL and REST APIs, and event-driven integrations, including onboarding automation and notification workflows. You will implement authentication, authorization, enterprise SSO, and secure access across multi-tenant environments. Your ownership will extend from technical design through deployment and ongoing support. You will improve performance, scalability, and reliability through monitoring, diagnostics, and debugging; maintain technical documentation, architecture diagrams, and operational procedures; and improve internal tooling and engineering onboarding. Our stack includes React, Material UI, Apollo Client, TypeScript with Node.js, and AWS serverless services. AI-assisted development is part of our daily workflow, from design and implementation to testing, refactoring, debugging, documentation, and code review. Engineers remain accountable for the security, performance, maintainability, and compliance of the code they deliver. About You You take ownership of complex problems and see solutions through deployment and production support. You bring a collaborative, customer-focused approach to working in a small engineering team. You communicate technical decisions clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. What We Look For 6+ years of professional software engineering experience building and supporting production applications across the full stack. Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or Information Technology, or equivalent practical experience. Hands-on experience with MongoDB Atlas, including schema design, indexing, query optimization, performance tuning, and multi-tenant database architecture. Experience with GraphQL APIs and resolvers, Strong hands-on frontend experience with React, TypeScript, Material UI, and Apollo Client, plus backend development using TypeScript with Node.js, including secure API design. Experience designing, deploying, and supporting AWS serverless applications using API Gateway, Lambda, Cognito, SQS, EventBridge, SNS, and SES. Experience with event-driven architectures, asynchronous messaging, infrastructure optimization, and infrastructure as code using Terraform and the Serverless Framework. Experience implementing SAML 2.0 SSO, Amazon Cognito user pools and authorizers, JWT-based authentication and authorization, TLS encryption, and secure API access. Working knowledge of Zero Trust principles, tenant isolation, encryption at rest, and secure data access patterns. Proficiency with AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code, ChatGPT, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or Amazon Q Developer, with the ability to review and validate generated code. Strong debugging and technical documentation skills.  Preferred Qualifications Experience building and operating multi-tenant enterprise SaaS platforms and highly available cloud-native applications. Experience writing automated tests with Jest and Cypress Experience building, deploying, or supporting applications in AWS GovCloud. Experience with REST API contract management, or Python. Experience designing fault-tolerant distributed services and idempotent operations. Experience with Amazon CloudWatch, logs and metrics, dashboards, alarms, distributed tracing, incident response, and production reliability engineering. Experience configuring VPC links, Lambda registration hooks, or integrations with enterprise SSO providers. Knowledge of security best practices and compliance frameworks in enterprise production environments.
