Maintenance Mechanic

The primary purpose of the position is to serve as a Maintenance Mechanic for; Maintenance, Preventative Maintenance, inspections, and construction projects performed by the Maintenance section throughout the facility as assigned. Facilities include all buildings on the main campus, leased facilities, and off-site facilities throughout northern Nevada and northern California. Works independently after receiving the initial assignment and instructions. Minor repair and maintenance to major construction covering building shells, both interior and exterior. Reviews the details of the project and identifies what is required to project completion. Reviews and understands complex blueprints, drawings or other specifications and is responsible for an assignment from initial layout to final assembly. Electrical work may include all basic troubleshooting and repair. Skilled in the use of all common electrical hand and power tools and testing equipment as required. Circuit breaker resetting and troubleshooting; specifying replacement as required. Assists carpenters plan and complete projects that involve constructing, altering, repairing, and/or modifying framework, doors, finished paneling, windows, and interior/exterior trim. Measures, cuts, constructs, installs, repairs, and modifies routine mill work, framing, partitions, ect. Repair/Replace floor and ceiling tile, VCT flooring, wall tile, corner guards, drywall, handrails, wainscot, and other miscellanies items. Repairs & maintain plumbing systems. Installing, modifying, and repairing new and existing utility, supply, and disposal systems. Maintenance including backflow prevention valves, steam control valves, radiators, and coils. Install, repair, modification and preventive maintenance of heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment and recognizing the causes of faulty equipment using a basic knowledge of refrigeration cycle. Other duties as assigned. Work Schedule: 7:30am • 4:00pm Position Description Title/PD#: Maintenance Mechanic/PD03166A Physical Requirements: The incumbent is required to work at job sites and wood shops which can require them to stand for extended periods of time in uncomfortable positions while operating machinery. The incumbent at time may spend a considerable amount of time bending, kneeling and stopping. The work may involve prolonged crouching and standing and frequent stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in exhausting and uncomfortable positions. The incumbent works from ladders, scaffolding and hydraulic platforms. He/she often works in portions of the utility systems that are cramped, dirty and hard-to reach locations. The incumbent may lift and carry tools, equipment, ladders, scaffolding, parts and supplies up to 40 pounds. Occasionally, the incumbent will be required to lift and carry items over 40 pounds. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
