Maintenance Worker

You will serve as a Maintenance Worker with Fossil Butte National Monument. The primary purpose of the position is to perform recurring building and/or utility maintenance and operation duties and to assist journeymen and other higher graded maintenance workers. Incumbent utilizes knowledge and skills in several trades and crafts. Career-Seasonal appointments are permanent positions and include the same benefits as Career appointments, but do not provide work on a year-round basis. You will work for approximately March through December, and you will be in a non-pay status for the remainder of the year. Non-pay status may range from one to five pay periods (1/1/27-2/28/27). Some of the major duties you will perform include but are not limited to the following: Employee will be able to be proficient in general maintenance including but not limited to; mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and carpentry work. Employee will be able to build or rebuild various types of fence for the purpose of livestock exclusion. Employee will need to take water samples and make adjustments to the parks water treatment plants with the incumbent obtaining the Wyoming small water systems operator certification within one year of hire. Employee must be able to work in very hot/ very cold temperatures, in adverse weather, over rough terrain and be able to work in the field for entire shifts. Employee will be required to operate off-road utility vehicles, snow plows, and heavy equipment such as an agricultural tractor and a backhoe. Requirements Continued... QUALIFICATIONS: All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-10/02/2026-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors: Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision (SCREEN OUT) Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprints reading) Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation Repair, etc. Knowledge of materials Technical Practices (theoretical precise, artistic) Use of Measuring Instruments Vehicle Operation SCREEN OUTS: Minimum Qualifications: Have experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the full range of Maintenance Worker tasks in at least two of the trades listed assisting journeymen or other higher graded maintenance workers. Experience must be demonstrated in at least two of the following trades: Carpentry (constructs, installs, repairs and replace items such as doors, shelves, etc.); Painting (preparing surfaces, determine painting materials to be used and method of application, and painting a variety of surfaces); Plumbing (replace various valves, unions, elbows, fixtures, toilets, faucets and various types of pipe and copper lines, cut and thread pipes, winterize water systems, etc.); Roofing (repairs and patching, tar and paper, metal foam roofs and asphalt shingles); Electrical (repairs including removing, replacing, tightening, splicing, and insulating defective wiring and fixtures; Cement Finishing (building and setting forms for sidewalks and steps, mixes pours, spreads, and levels cement and concrete in preparation for final finishing; Masonry (maintenance, measures, determines amount of concrete, sets forms, pours and finishes concrete to blueprint standards and project specifications); Wastewater Plant Operator (monitoring equipment and gauges, performing routine tests, recording the results in reports, collecting samples, adjusting the rate of flow and amounts of chemicals to be used; Water Plant Operator (monitoring pumping equipment, regulating water, reading meters gauges and charts, recording readings and preparing reports).
