Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: Serves as an Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic Natick Directorate of Public Works. Install , repair and maintain HVACR systems which frequently must be modified to meet specific and critical conditions in laboratories and other experimental and test activities. Dismantle, repair and reassemble units such as compressors, pumps, valves, fans and bearings. Install, repair, and maintain large, complex, high and low pressure heat exchangers having a great variety of complicated components, parts, and auxiliary equipment. Systems maintained include components such as baffles, breechings, superheaters, preheaters, economizers, and feed water regulators. Mechanic must be able to operate and adjust and repair HVAC and refrigeration systems which are controlled by computer based systems, such as direct digital, microprocessor, electropneumatic, electronic and automated logic systems. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic ~ without more than normal supervision. 1)Test, modify, and/or repair air conditioning units to specification requirements; 2) Repair and/or reassemble units such as compressors and pumps to operational capacity; AND 3) Repair a variety of small and domestic air conditioning (A/C) units or systems, or auxiliary equipment such as motors, blowers, valves, pumps, and thermostatic controls. • Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical Effort Moderate to strong physical effort required due to the size of the equipment involved. Mechanic frequently lifts, carries, sets up parts and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, occasionally heavier weights. Often makes repairs for ladders, scaffolding, platforms, and hard-to-reach places requiring bending, kneeling and stooping. Work Conditions Occasionally required to work outside in all kinds of weather. There is frequently exposure to dirt, dust, grease, noise, odor, smoke, possibility of toxic fumes. Protective clothing or devices, including uncomfortable respirators or masks are occasionally required. Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify.
