As an ACCOUNTANT some of your typical work assignments include: Processing, reviewing, and reconciling collection and disbursement transactions, ensuring accurate classification of financial transactions and compliance with federal accounting standards, agency policies, and internal control requirements. Analyzing and verifying financial reports and entries generated from PeopleSoft Financials, identifying discrepancies, reconciling account balances, and ensuring that transactions adhere to Treasury, OMB, GAAP, and internal regulatory requirements. Collaborating with internal offices, auditors, and external federal agencies to exchange financial information, resolving reporting issues, preparing narrative analyses and documentation, and supporting accurate reporting of obligations, expenditures, revenues, cash, and other key financial data.

In addition to the education required for this position, you must have one full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 level. Specialized experience is defined as: Experience applying federal accounting standards to review and analyze financial transactions in automated systems; reconciling ledger data to ensure accuracy and compliance with the Department of the Treasury (TREAS) and the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) requirements; identifying and researching accounting discrepancies or internal control issues; and advising management on the financial impact of policies, procedures, and operational changes. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills, and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including any volunteer experience. If you cannot obtain your graduate school's definition of one year of graduate study, 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter hours) should be considered as satisfying the requirement for one year of full-time graduate study.
