INDUSTRIAL HYGIENIST

About the Position: This position is in the Defense Health Agency Public Health, Aberdeen Proving Ground (APG), MD.APG is in Harford County, Maryland, surrounded by the Bush River to the east and the Chesapeake Bay to the south, offering many amenities to include recreation and child/day care. Leave accrual negotiation may be available for those candidates who are new to Federal service. Serves as the Defense Health Agency (DHA) Industrial Hygiene Functional Representative to the Defense Occupational and Environmental Health Readiness System-Industrial Hygiene (DOEHRS-IH). Provides expert industrial hygiene technical advice and consultation to DHA senior leaders, management officials, installation personnel, contractors, and other DoW personnel. Provides advice and direction on the evaluation of the DOEHRS-IH to DHA and personnel assigned responsibility for planning and conducting installation surveys. Basic requirement for Industrial Hygienist: A bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree in industrial hygiene, occupational health sciences, occupational and environmental health, toxicology, safety sciences, or related science; OR A bachelor's degree in a branch of engineering, physical science, or life science that included 12 semester hours in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours of courses in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene; OR Certification from the Board for Global EHS Credentialing (formerly American Board of Industrial Hygiene(external link) (ABIH)) Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes assisting with identifying potential hazards, provide training to staff, and reviewing reports pertaining to occupational or environmental health. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09). FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
