Disassembles, repairs, reassembles and tests water and steam condensate pumps. You will Lay out cutting, bending, fabrication, filling, cleaning, and chlorinating equipment associated with temporary services piping. You will Uses templates, targets and/or mock-up assemblies. You will Perform brazing operations. Tests and installs safety control devices. You will Provide temporary services for facilities-nuclear and non-nuclear including dry docks, piers, and buildings. You will Test systems and equipment for proper pressure, leak- free joints, and operation. Additional Information: Incumbent usually perform work indoors and outdoors exposing them to the prevailing weather conditions, noise, and intermittent slippery or uneven surfaces. Frequently, work is performed in cramped areas, close confined spaces of ships and submarines with minimum light and ventilation. They are regularly exposed to moving objects, elevations, and sharp edges with the possibility of cuts and bruises, and to noise and vibration from machines. They are also exposed to the possibility of an electric shock when working on wet surfaces and of serious injury from slipping and falling while working on masts, in the dry dock, and from ladders and staging. Dirt, grease, dampness, and chemical fumes are frequently encountered. Various protective devices such as safety shoes, glasses, gloves and hard hats are used. If assigned to perform nuclear work, incumbent must complete and maintain the nuclear program requirements, such as physical examination, qualifications, and security clearances. The incumbent may be assigned to work areas where certain potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present. These agents may include, but are not limited to fumes, dust, noise, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation, chemicals, etc. To ensure employee safety and health, the shipyard maintains personnel protection programs consistent with applicable laws and regulations. These programs may include engineering controls, training, work procedures, use of personnel protective equipment, and medical surveillance. As part of the medical surveillance programs, the incumbent may be required to take medical examinations to assess his or her medical qualification for duty involving work with these agents.
