This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Competitive positions to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This is an Electrician WG-2805-10 position at the Directorate of Public Works Operations and Maintenance Division located on Ft. Leavenworth, KS. Serve as a Journeyman electrician to install and repair a variety of electrical systems. Repair a wide variety of electrical equipment. Apply electrical theory and principles to complete repair and installation of electrical systems. Plan the layout of electrical wiring using blueprints, sketches and/or general instructions. Follow wiring diagrams to install electrical circuits. Use tools such as voltmeter, ampmeter, ohmmeter to test electrical circuits and equipment. Test old circuits to see if faulty condition is corrected after repairs. Troubleshoot electrical problems. Locate source of electrical malfunctions to perform repair and replacement of defective parts. Install conduit to route electrical wiring. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Electrician ~ without more than normal supervision. Installing, repairing, and modifying new and existing electrical lines, circuits, systems and fixtures. Planning the layout of electrical installation to include circuits. Diagnosing, repairing and maintaining a variety of electrical devices, equipment and components. • Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical Effort • Work requires making repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms. Work is often in hard-to-reach places which require standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, and climbing in tiring and awkward positions Working Conditions • This position works inside buildings and shops as well as outside. Incumbent is subject to contact with dirt and soiling of hands and clothing, to shocks and burns from voltages up to 600 volts, and cuts and bruises.
