Medical Records Technician (Tumor Registry)

About the Position: This position is located at Blanchfield Army Community Hospital on Fort Campbell, Tennessee. Preferred Certifications but not required: Oncology Data Specialist Certification; Certification offered by National Cancer Registrars Association. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation Maintain liaison with staff physicians and allied health professionals; local, state, and national professional organizations. Assist in compiling and maintaining a comprehensive database utilizing the Automated Central Tumor Registry (ACTUR). Review standard and electronic patient medical records to identify cases of malignant disease, abstract and code information. Provide assistance to the Oncology Advisory Group and attends multidisciplinary tumor boards. Ensure accuracy and completeness of appropriate staging coding and inclusion of all pertinent patient data. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: (1) Compiling databases utilizing automated systems providing pertinent patient data for use by physicians and/or researchers; (2) Apply knowledge of human anatomy to correctly identify bodily structures during clinical procedures; (3) Update electronic medical records to ensure timely entry of patient data in accordance with regulatory requirements; (4) Review accuracy of diagnosis codes for services using federal coding regulations and guidelines; and (5) Communicate patient status updates to healthcare providers to ensure timely coordination of care. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). OR Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Healthcare Management, Healthcare Administration, Medical Records Administration, Health Information Administration or a related field, etc. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages. FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
