Electrician (Motor Vehicle Operator)

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This position is with the U.S. Army Garrison-Hawaii, Directorate of Public Works (DPW). Hawaii is a beautiful state, but has a high cost of living. For more information about Hawaii and the island of Oahu, visit:http://www.hvcb.org/ and https://home.army.mil/hawaii/index.php You will be responsible for completing installations, modifications, repairs and testing of systems, circuits, equipment and controls. You will be responsible for planning and laying out routing, placement and arrangement of system circuits, controls and equipment. You will be responsible to arrange and install various gauges, sizes, and types of wire, conduit, couplings, fittings, relays, boxes, circuit breakers, and other electrical devices in ways that ensure proper and safe operation of systems. You will interpret and apply building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, and engineering drawings and use formulas basic to the trade to figure voltage and resistance. You will perform grounding electrode system installation and repair usually consisting of primary grounding electrodes and secondary electrodes. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Electrician (Motor Vehicle Operator) ~ without more than normal supervision; installing insulators, bending and cutting conduit, calculate voltage, current; utilize building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams to plan and layout routing, placement, type, size, gauge, balance, load and safe operation of electrical lines, circuits, and systems.- Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical Effort • Work assignments involve standing, climbing, bending, crouching, and occasionally working in cramped and awkward positions. Works at ground level and from ladders, scaffolding, platforms, manlifts, bucket trucks, and aerial lift trucks where parts of systems worked on are in hard to reach places. Frequently lifts and carry tools, equipment, and parts that weigh up to 40 pounds. Occasionally, employee lifts or moves with assistance moderately heavy objects weighing in excess of 50 pounds. Work Conditions • Employee works on different shift schedules. Work is performed both in and out of doors where there is regular exposure to dirt, dust, grease, noise, and bad weather. There is also exposure to the possibility of cuts, bruises, electrical shock and burns. Protective devices such as but not limited to earplugs, safety glasses, respirators, gloves, hard hat, and safety shoes are required. Long trousers or coveralls and shirt or tee shirt with sleeves are worn.
