AIRCRAFT ORDNANCE SYSTEMS MECHANIC

This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) position. ARTs are part of the regular career civil service and enjoy all the benefits granted to Federal employees in the competitive civil service. Hourly Salary Range: $34.67 - $40.46 SUMMARY: The primary purpose of this position is to serve as an Air Reserve Technician (ART) Small Shop Chief no more than 25% of the time and to perform the same duties as other journey level mechanics assigned to the section and to train reservists in the accomplishment of tasks set forth herein. DUTIES: Performs small shop chief duties over the journey level mechanics in the section no more than 25% of the time. Accomplishes scheduled inspections of egress systems. Troubleshoots egress and jettison systems on operational aircraft and aircraft undergoing repair, overhaul, and modification. Performs operational (or simulated operational) tests of egress and canopy jettison systems to ensure proper operation of all components using canopy blow testers, specialized test gauges, and push/pull spring scales. Complies with safety requirements and complies with security regulations, directives, and policies. The screen out element for this position is Ability To Do The Work Of An AIRCRAFT ORDNANCE SYSTEMS MECHANIC Without More Than Normal Supervision JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of egress and jettison systems used on assigned aircraft and the practices, methods, and processes necessary to test, troubleshoot, inspect, modify and repair them. Knowledge of a variety of technical data such as manufacturers handbooks and specifications, technical orders, operating instructions and special instructions relative to explosive or incendiary device and safety precautions related thereto. Ability to use canopy blow testers, specialized test gauges, push/pull spring scales, voltmeters, ohm meters, external power supplies, feeler gauges, inside and outside micrometers, vernier calipers, simulated initiators, vacuum pump, altimeters, hundredth second timer clock, and torque wrenches. Ability to read and interpret instructions, specifications, and blueprints. Ability to use special and standard test equipment, gauges, and hand tools. Ability to troubleshoot egress and jettison systems on operational aircraft and aircraft undergoing repair, overhaul, and modification. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT CONTINUED: Removes and installs personnel and drogue parachutes and survival kits. Makes necessary inspection of same to ensure proper fit and installation. Serves as team leader of employees from other organizations when these employees augment egress/jettison work. Also stores and controls explosives/incendiary materials for organization. This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) enlisted position. The incumbent is required to meet and maintain Air Force Reserve requirements. Work schedule will be aligned to allow the incumbent to fully participate in unit training assemblies. The incumbent's regular assignments are primarily ART duties; however, the incumbent may also be assigned non-ART duties, generally not to exceed 30 percent of total responsibilities. This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) position. ARTs are eligible for 15 days active duty tour each year for which military leave is granted with full civilian pay. Air Reserve units and members are subject to immediate call to active duty in mobilization to meet a national emergency.
