# Director, Field Medical - Central

Maze Therapeutics

The Opportunity We’re looking for a Director of Field Medical to serve as the regional scientific lead during a pivotal stage of our growth. This senior, full-scope Medical Science Liaison role rests on two pillars: leading high-level scientific exchange and key opinion leader relationships across your region and serving as the field-facing scientific partner to Maze's clinical development programs. It’s a genuine scientific leadership position, not site support with a scientific veneer. With MZE829 entering its pivotal program in 2027 and MZE782 advancing through Phase 2, your immediate priority is enabling the clinical programs, so trial and investigator support carries real weight from day one. Because Maze is genetics-first, you’ll need credibility across two distinct communities: nephrology (AMKD, FSGS, CKD) and metabolic disease (PKU). Initially, an individual contributor, you’ll build the region's scientific relationships and support trial execution, then help recruit, mentor, and eventually lead a regional MSL team as we grow The Impact You’ll Have Scientific Exchange & KOL Engagement You’ll be a recognized scientific expert and the trusted face of Maze in your regions. Lead compliant, peer-to-peer scientific exchange with thought leaders, physicians, renal pathologists, and PKU specialists, and build a durable regional KOL map, including in a metabolic community where Maze isn’t yet known. Provide accurate scientific education on AMKD, FSGS, CKD, and PKU, including APOL1 biology and SLC6A19 substrate reduction, and respond to unsolicited medical inquires. Represent Maze at major congresses (ASN, NKF, and metabolic/PKU societies) and support advisory boards, scientific meetings, and patient advocacy partnerships. Clinical Development & Investigator Partnerships The immediate priority. You’ll be the field-facing scientific partner accountable for site engagement and scientific barriers affecting enrollment across your region. Serve as the regional scientific partner to Maze's trials, including HORIZON and the MZE829, and MZE782, and the single point of contact for investigators and sites. Shape site selection through feasibility input, and support site identification, investigator meetings, and start-up. Own the field-side response to enrollment and retention barriers, driving compliant scientific solutions with Clinical Operations. Genetic Testing & Patient Identification Support adoption of APOL1 genotyping and advance genotype-driven patient identification pathways, the mechanism by which eligible patients reach the trials. Address the trust and access barriers facing an AMKD population disproportionately of African ancestry, a concrete enrollment lever, not a peripheral consideration. Medical Insights & Strategic Input Capture field insight (treatment patterns, unmet need, evidence gaps, competitive intelligence) on a consistent cadence, and translate it into recommendations that shape medical strategy, evidence generation, and launch readiness. Because Maze is small, these insights land directly with the people who set direction. Building the Field Medical Organization Carry your assigned territory personally as the senior regional scientific leader, and help recruit, mentor, and develop MSLs as we scale, growing into regional team leadership over the next 1–2 years. As a Director, we also expect you to demonstrate the following Leadership Competencies:   Communication and Influence Builds communication channels across Maze for sharing information Influences Senior Management decisions through persuasive arguments Respectfully addresses differing opinions leading to support of decision Teamwork and Collaboration Champions partnerships and connections across Maze Proactively addresses issues that could result in breakdown of team relationships Spotlights team and individual contributions in public forums Execution and Results Addresses gaps and leverages strengths to get best results Maintains a steadying presence and clarifies priorities during change Anticipates and removes barriers that put functional/corporate goals at risk Develop Others and Self Removes barriers to staff development and empowers them to make their own decisions Stays current on industry trends and keeps direct-reports prepared and responsive What We’re Looking For What you’ll need An advanced scientific degree (PharmD, PhD, MD, DO, or equivalent). a minimum of 7 years of Medical Affairs, Field Medical, Clinical Development, or related biopharmaceutical experience. A demonstrated track record building KOL relationships and leading peer-to-peer scientific exchange. This is a core requirement, not a nice-to-have; if you’re strong on trial logistics but light on scientific engagement and KOL relationships, this role isn’t the right fit. Demonstrated accountability for site engagement and clinical trial enrollment, not solely data presentation at sites. Deep scientific fluency and the credibility to hold a peer-level conversation with an academic specialist. Willingness to travel approximately 60–70% within the assigned region. What would be great to have Nephrology depth with existing relationships in the kidney community, and genuine willingness to build metabolic and PKU fluency. Pre-commercial or first-launch biotechnology experience, built without an established field infrastructure. Experience with genotype-driven patient identification and diagnostic testing pathways. Experience mentoring MSLs or leading congress and or scientific-platform initiatives. About Maze Therapeutics Maze Therapeutics is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company harnessing human genetics to develop precision medicines for patients with kidney and metabolic diseases.
