Supervisory Park Ranger (Interpretation)

You will serve as a Supervisory Park Ranger (Interpretation) with National Park Service. You may be required to work weekends, evenings and holidays. You may be required to travel overnight away from home up to 1 night per month. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes. First time hires to the Federal government normally start at the step 1 rate. Some of the major duties you will perform include but are not limited to the following: Formulates and directs interpretive and education programs that fulfill park legislation, planning documents, and visitor needs across multiple National Park Service sites. Oversees the planning, design, contracting, fabrication, and installation of comprehensive interpretive media, including exhibits, waysides, films, publications, signs, and digital media. Is proficient using Artificial Intelligence systems. Supervises permanent, seasonal, and term employees and volunteers; determines staffing needs, recruits and selects staff, assigns work, establishes performance standards, provides training and coaching, and evaluates employee performance. Develops and manages digital outreach, including park websites and social media, and implements accessibility standards for interpretive media and personal services. Manages cooperating association operations and implements the superintendent's priorities for community, legislative, and formal and informal partner engagement, agreements, and collaborative programming. Serves as an Agreement Technical Representative. Competitive candidates must also meet Time-in-Grade requirements as defined in 5 CFR 300, Subpart F. Quality Ranking Factor: Proficiency in the literary works of Paul Laurence Dunbar (PLD). This includes thorough knowledge and understanding of a substantial body of literature to include 12 books of poetry, 4 novels, librettos, plays and screenplays written by Paul Laurence Dunbar. Digesting this amount of work and forming critical associations requires multi-years of study and training. To qualify for this position at the GS-12 grade level: You must possess at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors) performing all of the following duties: (1) leading/managing interpretive and/or education programs, including developing, implementing, and evaluating programs for multiple audiences and coordinating the work of staff, partners, or other stakeholders; (2) planning and delivering interpretive media or public-facing communication projects, such as exhibits, waysides, publications, audiovisual programs, websites, social media, or other digital media, including coordinating project development from initial concept through implementation; (3) developing and implementing collaborative programs or projects with multiple external partners, including establishing shared goals, coordinating responsibilities and schedules, and successfully delivering programs or projects across organizational boundaries; (4) supervising/managing employees and volunteers, including assigning and reviewing work, establishing performance expectations, providing training and coaching, evaluating performance, and making or recommending personnel actions such as recruitment, selection, promotion, recognition, or discipline; (5) developing and managing program priorities, plans, and resources across multiple concurrent projects, including establishing priorities and schedules, coordinating staff and organizational resources, and completing projects within established deadlines and requirements. You must include hours per week worked. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Must be a U.S. Citizen or National. Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication. Must be able to obtain an Agreements Technical Representative (ATR) Certification within 6 months of employment. A uniform allowance will be provided. You are required to complete training, obtain and maintain a government credit card with travel and purchase authority. As a condition of employment for accepting this position, you may be required to serve a 1 year probationary period to evaluate your fitness and whether your continuation of employment advances the public interest. This probationary period is an extension of the appointment process and therefore requires the agency to determine if continued employment would advance the public interest, meet the organization goals and mission of the agency, and/or otherwise promote the efficiency of the service. This is a supervisory position that may require completion of a supervisory probationary period. This position does not allow substituting education for experience.
