About 8beehives 8beehives is an early-stage restaurant technology startup building a modern, AI-powered platform for restaurant operators. Our founding team combines deep restaurant and technology expertise. It includes experienced restaurant entrepreneurs who own and operate eight restaurants, along with a technology executive who has helped build and scale multiple billion-dollar products. This gives our engineering team the opportunity to solve real operational challenges in active restaurant environments and build technology informed by firsthand industry experience. The Opportunity We’re looking for a Junior Software Engineer with prior hands-on development experience who is ready to take on more responsibility and help build our platform from the ground up. This role is ideal for someone who has already contributed to working software, is comfortable with development fundamentals, and wants to grow through meaningful production work, code reviews, and guidance from experienced engineers. You will build backend services, APIs, integrations, and AI-powered features while learning how to develop and operate reliable software on AWS. You will own well-defined tasks and features, with support on technical design and more complex implementation decisions. As an early employee, you will work closely with the engineering team and founders, see how your work supports real restaurant operations, and take on broader responsibilities as your skills and the company grow. What You’ll Do Build and improve backend services using TypeScript and Node.js Develop APIs and contribute to integrations with payments, POS platforms, reservations, messaging, and delivery services Work with relational databases to implement data models, write queries, and support product features Write automated tests and help keep features reliable as the platform evolves Work with CI/CD pipelines , deployment workflows, and services running on AWS Debug issues, investigate application logs, and help resolve problems in development and production Contribute to AI-powered features using LLM APIs, tool calling, and structured outputs, with guidance from experienced engineers Use modern AI coding tools to accelerate development while understanding, reviewing, and testing the code you deliver Participate in code reviews, document your work, and apply feedback to improve code quality Collaborate with engineers, founders, and restaurant operators to turn well-defined requirements into working software What We’re Looking For Approximately 1–3 years of software development experience , or equivalent hands-on experience delivering and maintaining working software Practical experience with TypeScript or JavaScript , and familiarity with Node.js Experience building or contributing to backend services and APIs Understanding of SQL, relational databases, and basic data modeling Familiarity with Git, code reviews, automated testing, and debugging Some hands-on exposure to AWS or another cloud platform Familiarity with CI/CD concepts and modern software delivery practices Experience using Claude Code, OpenAI Codex, GitHub Copilot , or similar AI development tools, with a willingness to understand and validate generated code Strong problem-solving and communication skills, openness to feedback, and the ability to take ownership of assigned work Nice to Have Experience with PostgreSQL Exposure to LLM APIs, tool calling, structured outputs, or conversational AI Experience integrating third-party APIs, webhooks, or payment services Contributions to a production application, startup product, or open-source project Familiarity with application security, authentication, and data privacy fundamentals Interest in restaurant technology, hospitality, or multilingual products What We Offer Competitive compensation based on experience, skills, location, and the scope of the role Meaningful equity ownership in an early-stage company Medical, dental, and vision benefits Opportunities for mentorship, hands-on learning, and increasing technical responsibility The opportunity to contribute to the product and engineering culture from the beginning Direct exposure to restaurant operators and real-world product environments A collaborative team focused on building technology that delivers measurable value Significant opportunities for professional growth as the company expands Equal Opportunity 8beehives is an equal-opportunity employer.
