Mostly Remote Work: This position offers a primarily remote work arrangement, with occasional travel to the Northern Wasco County PUD office in The Dalles, Oregon for meetings, projects, or other business needs. Candidates should be able and willing to travel to the office when required. About the Role Northern Wasco County PUD is seeking an Energy Data Analyst I to join its Power Resources team. This is a hands-on technical role combining complex SQL, Python, relational databases, ETL/data pipelines, and business intelligence with energy supply and power market analytics. You’ll develop and maintain the databases, software, automated pipelines, integrations, dashboards, and reporting solutions that support critical Power Resources data and decision-making. You'll also work with large time-series datasets involving electric load and resources, power market analytics, energy settlements, reconciliation, and operational reporting. Previous electric utility or energy industry experience is preferred but not required. Candidates with strong technical data analytics experience from other industries are encouraged to apply. What You'll Do Develop and optimize complex SQL queries and data models. Develop and maintain relational databases, including schemas, tables, functions, and views. Design, build, schedule, and maintain ETL processes and around-the-clock automated data pipelines. Troubleshoot data quality, availability, integration, and performance issues. Develop and maintain software, APIs, integrations, and reporting tools supporting critical Power Resources data. Analyze electric load and resource data across hourly, daily, weekly, monthly, and annual time periods. Provide power market analytics and monitoring to support operations, planning, and decision-making. Organize, validate, and analyze data used for energy settlements with counterparties and reconciliation reporting. Create dashboards, visualizations, KPI reports, and recurring and ad-hoc reporting. Perform statistical modeling and analysis of structured and unstructured datasets to identify trends and meaningful insights. Work with large time-series datasets collected from internal and external sources. Partner with end users to understand business needs, document technical requirements, and develop effective data and reporting solutions. Present analytical findings and recommendations to technical and non-technical stakeholders. Participate in cross-functional initiatives focused on improving systems, workflows, controls, and reporting. Provide cross-training and backup support for other Power Resources analytics functions. Occasional work outside normal business hours may be required to support emergency restoration activities, critical operational needs, or special projects. Required Technical Skills We're looking for candidates with demonstrated professional experience in the following areas: Complex SQL query development and optimization Relational database management systems (RDBMS) , including schemas, tables, functions, and views ETL tools and automated data pipelines , including building, scheduling, maintaining, and refining pipelines Python and object-oriented programming Git/GitHub or comparable version control Windows and Linux environments Business Intelligence and data visualization Microsoft Excel Microsoft Office applications Applicants should expect a technical assessment covering the core required skills during the interview process. Preferred Experience & Technologies Experience with any of the following will help you stand out: PostgreSQL / pgAdmin Grafana R / RStudio Java AWS, cloud computing, and cloud storage Microsoft SharePoint Electronic document and records management systems (EDRMS) Electric utility or broader energy industry experience Power or energy market analytics Electric load and resource data Energy settlements and reconciliations SCADA Energy or financial reporting systems Large time-series datasets Education & Experience Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, Physical Science, Natural Science , or a related technical or quantitative field. 3–5 years of full-time professional experience as a Data Analyst or in a similar technical data role with experience across the required technical skill areas. An advanced degree in a related field is preferred but not required. Other combinations of education and relevant experience demonstrating the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may also be considered.
